My second attempt at the 'Roaring Forties' formation, using all the available NZ repaints I could find for the Alphasim model, and the recorder module to create the formation group. Firstly, some background info:

As well known in airshow circles as the RNZAF's Red Checkers are the various Harvard teams of the New Zealand Warbirds Association. These began on a small scale but worked up over time to a full routine which emulated that of the Red Checkers during their Harvard days. Many of the pilots had previously flown with the RNZAF team, others were civil pilots.

So first there was a two-ship team. It then became a three-ship, then a four-ship team, and eventually a five-ship display was worked up. They were known originally as The Warbirds Formation Aerobatic Team.

This main team, with a few member changes, took on the identity The Roaring Forties, which apparently referred both to the southern latitude lines of New Zealand, and more so to the age of the pilots and the aircraft, both into their forties when the team formed.

Nice work Mr Trolly! The formation looks very solid. Whereabouts do you get the paint for NZ1015? Also, I seem to remember paints for the CAF's ZK-USM, and ZK-MJN/NZ1052 - where are they?

I'm attempting to do more of the Warbird Harvards, and making 57/ZK-TVI a more accurate reflection of her current appearance, as well as doing NZ1099(the other all-yellow machine, formerly 'ENN), ZK-ENE/NZ1066, and NZ1076 and '91.

Tell ya what, I'd love to attempt a multiplayer virtual Roaring Forties, if anyone else was keen. I think it'd be cool, too, to do a "mock attack" at the upcoming NZFF fly-in...just a coupla thoughts...

t6_nz2_4.zip on Avsim, has 78, 52 and 57 and from memory, Ian Warren painted up 15 and sent it to me in an email.. not sure if he ever released it publically? You'll have to ask him

I believe Charl and Ian and a few others did that at last years fly in on FSX? Would be awesome to watch if you can organise it, but flying by myself in the formation above was hard enough work, let alone in real time with other sim pilots! :lol:

BTW, do I have the correct repaint installed for NZ1057 (ZK-TVI)- The real aircarft has an orange band that begins behind the RAF roundel on the main fuselage, not before it. And are there any other orange/grey NZ Harvards out there that I could add to my formation? I'm sure I've seen screenshots of three Harvards with Kiwi roundels on the wings from FS before...?
