Well, since K5054NZ is flying the flag for the Spitfire at WoW 08, I thought I'd better represent the Russians... I've got a real soft spot for all four of these machines

Another awesome formation, the recorder module can get addictive can't it!

Where did you get those aircraft models from by the way, I've never heard of some of them...

Sure can mate! These shots were all based on the P-47 tracks from last week, after a long day of stocktaking thousands of Hansen water-fittings I didnt have a lot of concentration left :(

Now for the models...
The Polikarpov I-16 is a CFS3 conversion of pretty nice quality (freeware but buggered if I can remember the website, not any of the usual places though)
The Mig-3 is the trusty old SkyUnlimited payware that I've had lurking around on my old rig forever
The Yak-3 is the Captain Sim model, quite a sweet flyer and tons fun for aeros...
The Lavochkin LaGG-11 is from Bear Studios (payware, some of you may own their Mig-15 pack), highly detailed and brutally quick

Why just stick to the usual "vanilla" Warbirds when you can have something a little bit different?

Cheers for the reply Alpha, I only reconised the Captainsim Yak, the Polikarpov was what interested me though, looks fantastic in the third to last screenshots!

Could you please post the tracks for this flight in the forums? I'm keen to edit it up with some allied aircraft and give it a whirl for myself..

Cool idea, AS!
I'd always neglected the Reds, until I saw this one flying at Masterton last year:

What a sound! Something of a handful to fly I'm told, would love to get hold of a quality FS model...

What a combo Charl! Two smokin hot biplanes

I'd kill for decent FS models of the Staggerwing and the Chaika! I'm gonna go trawling through a bunch of obscure sites to try and find what I presume were the GMAX source files for the I-153.
Found em ages ago and ignored them since Im a level below cr@p when it comes to 3d modelling... I even managed to balls up the fuselage building tutorial and ended up with a sphere

Watch this space!

Simtech did a very passable Beech Staggerwing, plenty of paints and variations too.
Search "Beech Staggerwing" on flightsim.com.
They also did the best Fokker Triplane available.
Poli's are very difficult to find, keep us posted.

Arse! 3 rigs trawling through god knows how many pages and so far no source files for an I-153... <_<

However, I've found an 18mb CFS2 model which I'm downloading now. Filename is I-153_update_vvs.zip at Sim Outhouse.
Anyone keen on a bit of backwards engineering? :ph43r:

Nice shots Alfashark - the formation can just about be replicated here (why havent they!) in RL with the exception of the Mig-3 (there is one of these flying in Russia) and the different model Lagg - there is a Lagg-9 at Aeroplane Heaven

Lago also have a reasonable (but now quite old) Staggerwing.

I-16 series by Ivan Hsu, converted by "Tekworm" for FS9, only available from Sim-Outhouse, just search their Library by Author - Tekworm, there are a number of different model downloads

Not quite the I-153, but its predecessor can be found at this site, I-15

And I rediscovered the only "civilian" FS model apparently in existence of the sublime Chaika, the I-153 retracable gear biplane as shown off by John Lanham at Masterton last year and Wanaka a couple of weeks back. No she doesn't look like much as she's an updated FS95 model, but is STILL a Chaika. Has animated gear, which is cool, but no moving control surfaces or pilot. And, in my installation of FS9, the rotating prop is invisible. Still, she's amazing to fly around and rolls damn fast!

Search on FlightSim.com for Herve Devred, or Chaika, or just Polikarpov. Filename "chaika.zip". I'm using an I-152 panel I found on there and Ivchenko M-14P radial soundpack - look for Yak-18Ts and you should find it. Not quite as grumbly as the M62s in the Polis, but it's close enough for now.

Is anyone able to "restore" and update the Chaika for FS9 and FSX? I'm just an FS9 man personally, but I don't want to seem like I'm cutting the Tenners out of the picture! * SEE BOTTOM OF POST!!!*

Oooh, that I-15 is damned tempting!!!! Only three pounds until midnight tonight? What a bargain! Does it come with a soundpack?

The Ivan Hsu I-16s are all available at FlightSim.com too, just search his name or Polikarpov. One comes in the markings of machine number 28...coincidentally one of the six I-16s restored in Russia for Sir Tim Wallis!

STOP PRESS Just trying out the CFS Chaika which Alfa shark found. Phhhhhhwoooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!!!!!!!! I see some repaints coming up, people! Screenies in their own thread soon!

Haha yep, she's not a bad little machine... just in need of some

A: nice repaints
B: in the long term, a rebuilt model... still a little bit "blocky" considering the sweet compound curves on the wing/fuselage fairings.

Re B, haha oh so true! The gull is NOWHERE as elegant as the real thing. <_< And the visibility is far too good!

I'll start working on repaints tomorrow, it just SCREAMS out for it. I'm amazed no-one's done any NZ Poli repaints!

Thanks again for giving us the info on its existence....I love it!

I'm pleased to see some real local interest in the Polis, I did think that they were a bit under-represented in the photo coverage from Wanaka this year. I first saw the Polis in 2002 (there were four of them then) and I've been obsessed ever since.
I've always been amazed by the size of the exercise when Tim Wallis undertook the restoration of six I-16s and three I-153s. Makes you wonder what else is out there.
There are some nice old models shown here (some fly a bit strange, but I particularly like the Tekworm I-16 to fly) but we really need something up-to-date. I've always said that if I ever found the time to model an aircraft, it'd be the I-16, but I'd much rather someone with a bit more experience did the job:)

Robin, ever since I first caught a glimpse of I-16 Number 9/ZK-JIN in the 1996 WoW book I've been smitten with them. Upon its arrival in March 98 the Chaika took hold of my affections, and if I got to fly one of the two for real, it would be the 153. Seeing them at Wanaka and Masterton over the last 4 years has only served to increase my love for the Ishak and the Chaika. John Lanham's displays in "Bipoli Seven-Five" in particular have caught my imagination and given me something to aim toward.

Re photo coverage, I'd like to think the lack of pics is simply due to the spectators being in total awe of these wonderful machines! :P I spent some time in the AFC hangar on Thursday and Monday after the flying, and was able to get some nice behind the scenes shots of the Polis at rest and being worked on. I'll post them tomorrow if anyone would like to see them?

If we got some new FS9/FSX I-16 and I-153 models I'd be over the moon. PERHAPS, after the early Fletchers and the Cresco, Mr Baunton may be persuaded? It makes sense to have a Kiwi designer do 'em as they are right on our doorstep. I have some magazine articles and snaps I've taken personally which may help, but I'm sure the AFC would be happy to oblige. Perhaps payware models, with a percentage of the proceeds going to the AFC and the WoW Trust? A good cause AND a pair of great new additions to the FS library.
