Corsair at Wanaka

Today I finally got around to purchasing the last remaining REAL NZ addon I was yet to own- the Wanaka and Tekapo set, purely for the airshow scenery! I had held off buying this one as the old Godzone magazine photoreal coverage had been more than sufficient for the last few years, but after attending the Warbirds over Wanaka event at the weekend, it seened stupid not to get the update! ($23 from simMarket)

So, with the date set to March 16th 2006, I set off in my new favourite sim aircraft- the freeware French Vought Corsair, for a whirl around the basin complete with a few low flybys over the crowdline. This is the first of many displays I will attempt to recreate, with many of the aircraft that performed during the show already having a flightsim counterpart (Fokkers, Mustang, DC3, Yak-3 etc.. will write up more comprehensive list along with repaint links when I get the time). Enjoy:

PS- It would be great to see this in the US Navy #8 scheme as the kiwi one is painted in- not sure of the ZK- reg as it doesn't have it painted on it as far as I can make out from my photographs, anyone know it's details?

The rego on the FG1 in NZ is CCR. I have photos of it in the kiwi scheme as it appeared with Keith Skilling flying at Flying Legends 1996. It really should be put back into that scheme as it is a kiwi machine.

Its actually ZK-COR but yes it would be great to get it back in a NZ scheme like it should be.

Great pics Andrew - theres a ZK-COR scheme (US Navy) for the Aeroplane Heaven Corsair.

Yep I saw that, but I didn't want to purchase the AH model as apparently it is heavy on framerates. I wonder if the paintjob textures could easily be converted?

Cheers Adam, I only run FS2004 at the moment as when I installed FSX, neither SP1 or SP2 had been released so I sold my copy on trademe due to the poor performance I recieved, and won't be buying it again anytime soon with my rig running just how I like it :)

Also, REAL NZ Wanaka is currently the only scenery out of the REAL NZ collection not to be compatable with FSX yet.

A bit like this Naki, as she was at Duxford with OFMC

I haven't seen a paintkit for the French corsair, so any scheme would be a DIY affair.

Not wanting to hijack Trollys thread, but a couple of shots of a sorely missed icon of WOW

:hesaid: Good show, FV!
I've been painting up some warbirds for AI, too.
I've got the Corsair (sort of), a Mustang (TAF), P40 (almost there).
Wonder which freeware Spit to use?

More WIP, but question for the "pro repainters", whats the best way to stop things like artwork, roundels, numbers etc looking pixelated when on the bird in fs? is it to do with the type of extended bitmap its saved as, eg dxt1, 3 or ??

I'm no pro painter, but I've messed up enough paints to know that your paint programme should save in 32-bit bmp format.
You can then use DXTBMP to save in the format of choice, DXT3 is mostly good enough.

OK I use PSP7, so will have a look at what 'bit' I'm saving them as, thanks Charl.

The Original WOW Corsair , the friendly birdcage , most impressive to see first time hovering the Wigram landing pattern 1994

Guward , now sits in a South American Museum since 1999 .
This the AH Corsair in FSX
