I am pleased to once again announce that FlyTampa will be sponsoring our screenshot competition after the cancellation of the original February content! Their brand of stunning payware scenery is already very popular among NZFF'ers, and although they do not currently sell any kiwi airports, the winner of this April's competition will get to choose any one of the following quality overseas addons for their prize:

St. Maarten (TNCM) , Vienna-Schwechat (LOWW) , Seattle-Tacoma (KSEA), Midway (KMDW) , San Francisco (KSFO) , Dubai (OMDB) , San Diego (KSAN) , Miami (KMIA) , or Tampa (KTPA).

Now that's an incentive for you all to enter!

This is the 23rd monthly screenshot competition, which is free to enter for all the members of NZFF.

This month's rules are as follows:

1) The screenshot must be from a Flight Simulator program (FS2004, FSX, X-Plane, etc), and the position of the shot must be somewhere over New Zealand territory.

2) The image size must be as close as possible to 984 pixels wide- read the uploading screenshot guide to find out how to re-size your shot. Please keep a high res version saved on your computer as the admin may request it from you at the end of the month to convert it into a site banner!

3) Also remember, try and make your should suitable for a thin rectangular banner. Think about that what positioning your aircraft and camera angles etc. (and please don't include any text on the image either)

4) Images can be submitted from March 31st 2008 to April 30th 2008, with only one entry per member. You can change your submission if you want, just delete the old one and replace it with a new one (by pressing the edit button, to the top right of your post. Please don't make new posts saying you have edited your original post as this makes the thread cluttered).

5) On April 30th, a poll will open and run for a few days to decide who has the best image, then the winner will have a cropped version of their image appear in the NZFF banner as well as receiving the Flytampa prize!

6) Minimal editing is allowed, (brighten/contrast, sharpening, blurring etc, no importation of other images allowed!) if you know how to do it. The more stunning your shots look the better!

7) This month's theme is 'Topdressing', where your screenshot must display a link with New Zealand agricultural aviation- be creative!

All the best to everyone, lets see lots of entries guys! May the best man win!

Footnote: It is general practise that the winners(all prize getters) of the month before do not enter the competition. It is up to you though...

I agree ,but it those that cant spend the time learning that complain about these edits ,a good year and a half we had no probs with them ,till the ones who like to complain get there fingers moving ,usually the same that complain about scenerys that there pc cant run or that can find something wrong in a perfect addon that they cant make but sure can ##### about ..
why did we start listening to them anyway ???
its just dropping standards that we had and they known nothing about ..now thats the only thing unfair

The vote is the only thing that picks the winner doesnt matter what it looks like or how its been edited

Do we have to have another war about this?

IMHO I think this picture has hardly any images inported, basically just those vehicles thats it. You cant really notice the image- Its not like one of Montie's awesome edits, or previous ones we have seen of Mt Everest. Then again, rules are rules, but thats just my 10cents.

I'm with you and Rob. It's just stupid. People just wanted to change the rules so they could win with minimal cost/effort. The awesome shot that Ian's made obviously took a LOT of time and effort, so why shouldn't he deserve to win?

Montie's shots are also a good example. They would arguably be the best NZFF has ever seen, and that's because editing a real photo seamlessly into the background makes it look more realistic and impressive.

My computer's a hunk of s**t, and the one month I entered a decent shot was when I edited it with a real photo, and people started moaning because they couldn't be bothered putting any effort into theirs.

EDIT:
Yes, I do believe we need another 'war' about this because the new rule is frankly bollocks.

Well of course poor ol' Trolly is again between a rock and a hard place - if he disallows the shot, he'll annoy half the forum members.
And if he does allow it, he'll annoy the other half for breaking the rules...
Of course, I know that Ian really meant to post the shot in the crop dressing thread, as he's not the sort of fella that wants to make Trolly unhappy

Probably a poll will reveal what forum members want for the banner.
But bear in mind, Trolly is the instigator and hardworking finder of sponsors for the competition, and is in no way obligated to change the rules!

We've chewed this one over before, but just for arguments' sake say the rules are abandoned for some reason, I'd like to get my entry in early:
(To make it clear, these are the points I am sticking to, and I hope to attract some votes which will show I am right)

1) NOT really  from a Flight Simulator program, and the position of the shot is NOT over New Zealand territory.
2) The image size is as far as possible  from 984 pixels wide
3) Not suitable for a thin rectangular banner. text?? I'll do what I like, mate.
4) Only one entry per member? Get real, I have a whole storehouse of the things, just waiting to be dumped here.
5) A poll to decide the winner? Well I think that's unfair, but they say sex sells, so let's see...
6) Editing...brighten/contrast, sharpening, blurring etc, but a little importation is vital to the final effect
7) This month's theme of 'Topdressing' didn't suit this, my second entry, so I got a little creative with the title. Oh, it's also not my work...

I know it's not quite what the ground rules say, but PLEASE vote for me.
(I am arranging free flightsim downloads at Piratz.com for everyone who does  )

I didn't think you could say that on this family forum :o
I thought I might submit this one, but I couldn't quite get to the top!
I think Ian's shot is brilliant, and should go on the banner with no further ado!
First one to whinge about it, :arrr: gets the FlyTampa prize!

I was waiting for Ian to comment before I posted my reply, and as Charl has mentioned, it's hard to please everyone being the administrator.

Seeing as the little debate over the 'Minimal editing is allowed' rule has yielded only one noted reaction (NZ255) vs six opposed to the rule (toprob, creator2003, benwynn, victor_alpha_charlie, Charl, Naki), I shall let the majority rule in this case and allow clever little edits as demonstrated by Mr Warren.

I hate to contradict myself, and thanks for being articulate and playing by the rules Nick- but at the end of the day, I'm just trying to please everyone. The competition is all about fun, so I don't want to go restricting that factor- nuff said.

Thats really cool Ian, however, I reckon a screenshot compo should be just that, a display of FS and not someones photoshop prowess. Just my 50c worth.

I think that changing a rule based on very minimal participation in one thread, in less than one day is (excuse my language) bollocks.

A poll would be a good idea. I don't necessarily disagree with things as they are, but people should at least be allowed to express some sort of opinion, in my opinion...
I'm personally a bit torn. I think that Ian's shot is really sharp, although I don't like the idea of excessive editing, where people take most of the 'screenshot' from somewhere else. I mean, this is a Flight Simulation forum, and a screenshot competition. Its not really up to me, although if there were a poll, I would definitely have my say...

Perhaps we revisit this topic and see whether people still feel the same way?

Alex

Hi everyone, when I posted my comment, all I was supposed to be doing was pointing out the rules. I wasn't trying to be a party popper, and ruin all the fun. Ian, it is a excellent shot and I probably would vote for it out of the current SS's posted so far.
Seeing every one's reaction to my post, I wish I hadn't posted it, and just let someone else say something. I was really disappointed to have my comment screwed up and spat back in my face.

BTW creator, if you're comment was aimed at me,

What is this forum supposed to be for?

And before you post your reaction (I'm wondering if I should click add reply or not) I'm in no way trying to act like a smart a**.
