I've recently discovered A.F. Scrub's work on FS.com. This man has realised two of my (FS) flying ambitions: the Hispano Buchon (Merlin-engined Bf109), and the Piper Enforcer (turboprop COIN Mustang).
He's also done a range of Reno Unlimited (modified WW2) racers! Famous names such as Critical Mass. Dago Red, Steadfast and Voodoo are amongst his creations to be found at FlightSim.com. The latter three are showcased here. With each aircraft I intend to give you a look at them on the ground, and then fly three high speed runs to see their max sim speed. At least, that I can do!

First off: new-build Yak-3U Steadfast. She's got a high power P&W R2000 instead of the original Russian AsH-82. She was built specifically for racing, and seems very fast to fly. And guess what? The real thing's for sale! A bargain at only US$650K! Who is in for a Kiwi syndicate?

335 knots indicated according to slew. Not bad.

Let's see how Race #4, the firey red Mustang Dago Red, compares!

Whew! 469! Not too bad! They must've tweaked the old Merlin a little!

Finally for now, Race 5 - my personal favourite from this batch - Voodoo!

Uh-oh! Downhill runs aren't counted, so Race 5 has to go around for a fourth run. Still - 492!!!!!!!!! Nice work!

Sigh - legal, yes, but 467 is still slower than Dago Red. Better luck next time boys.
Ok, so the qualifying stands at:
1st: P-51D N541OV "Dago Red"/#4 @ 469KIAS
2nd: P-51D N6526D "Voodoo"/#5 @ 467KIAS
3rd: Yak-3U N46463 "Steadfast"/#33 @ 335KIAS
I intend to get all of the Scrub racers and compare them over the coming weeks. They're all available FREE from FlightSim.com and are fairly small downloads. Would anyone be keen for some Reno-style multiplayer soon? Let me know.
