Well, today is a day I have been counting down to for quite some time! The Warbirds over Wanaka airshow starts later on and in order not to miss any of the fun I decide leave Tekapo just before sunrise!
We will follow a simple route to the south-west, keeping at a decent altitude to avoid any mountain peaks (can't afford any more tangles with landscape, Especially considering this is not my plane)
Speaking of the plane, my ride is ZK-MIF, a Cessna Stationair belonging to Wanaka Flightseeing.

With Tekapo still dark, we prepare to depart....no time to lose today!

Shortly after take-off...our landing light still cuts through the night.

Not much to see yet but flying this early is very peaceful.

Slowly however, the landscape does begin to break through

Our early start is rewarded with a beautiful sunrise, one of my favourite times of the day to fly!

Very soon we are descending into Wanaka

Very close to our destination now...what a beautiful setting for an airshow!

A veiw towards Lake Wanaka.

Easing MIF down at NZWF...the multitude of mobile homes belonging to aviation buffs are already there

Taxiing to our parking. We see that most of the preperations have already been made at the airfield...bring on those warbirds!

Parked up next to an Aspiring Air BN Islander...this area will be a "GA Parking lot" in a few hours I'm sure! (thanks Charl
)
From all accounts this is going to be a very special airshow this year...Rumour has it that there have been very many "international acts" lined up. Particularly from Europe and the US...so stay tuned!!
Cheers
Florian
