I was getting dizzy trying different things out bouncing up and down between NZAA/NZWP and NZCH in different planes, with an occdasional side trip to YSSY, so I decided on a bit of variety.

Far too nice a day to be leaving home ...

Up up and away - but I'd quite like to be down there on the beach !

About a quarter of the way across the ditch, settling into the cruise

Halfway across.

Why is it so hypnotic sitting there watching clouds slide slowly past ?

Near Melbourne. About this time the flight crew woke up laugh.gif , looked at the map in FSNavigator, saw a coast ahead and thought some seriously nasty thoughts about having slept through an entire continent. A quick look at the FMC to see how far I had left in which to drop 35000 feet didn't make sense at all, it said I still had 4 hours left. After a couple of deer-in-the-headlights minutes I thought to zoom the map out and finally realised which coast I was looking at rolleyes.gif

And so it was feet wet out over the bight

It was coming up time for another step climb and I thought I'd be tricky and programme it in to the fmc. I projected a couple of waypoints about 10 miles apart and gave the second one a crossing height of FL370. Nice idea but it didn't work and yes I had remembered to raise the MCP altitude. The VNAV mode should have allowed for it. More investigation required ...

Landfall again near Esperance. Feet dry from here smile.gif

Approaching Perth. For some reason the VNAV had tossed its toys out of the cot (the FS9 version of the LD763 has a tendency to do that) so I had to do the descent manually. Not a problem with modern electronics, just dial the crossing altitude for the next waypoint into the MCP then adjust the vertical speed until the end-of-descent marker (the green arc) is just before the waypoint.

Oh god, I've taken a wrong turn, this looks like Invercargill.

The controllers are setting me up like a trick shot on a pool table - the white dot at the top of the ground through the side window is the VASI for runway 24, but I still have 9 miles to go on this heading then a hard left turn to line up with runway 21.

Ye Gods they left that til the last possible minute ! Not sure I like turning final this close. And look, it's raining. It's always bloody raining when I arrive somewhere. Maybe I could hire myself out to drought stricken countries ? LOL

Hey wow, the speed is good, the position is good, this could work .....

..... if I can only remember the drop the MCP altitude from the last waypoint down to 0 so the plane can follow the glideslope .....

..... as James May would say, Oh Cack. Or something quite like that which the board software doesn't like wink.gif

No screenies of the attempted landing (ever seen a boeing jetliner doing a tactical approach? I even tried opening the cargo doors to get it down faster laugh.gif ) or the go-around, the next couple of minutes were far too 'interesting' for that sort of thing.

Still, it gave me a chance to do a lovely long final and get set up about 10 miles out so it wasn't all bad.

Could be a bit of a crosswind happening here !

Aah, yes, definitely some crosswind happening here ...

22 degrees and raining. Welcome to Australia. Is it time to go yet ? At least Invercargill is COLD and wet ...

Aircraft porn. NBA with all her bits hanging out ! drool.gif laugh.gif drool.gif

And here we are shut down at the gate. I told you I had that door open trying to slow down !

Great story!! I'm just trying to get to grips with the FMC, but am also finding loads of "irregularities". Some FMCs seem to work fine ... others just refuse to play ball. They don't all seem consistent in the the way they expect data input.

Nice pics as well!

Thanks Ian smile.gif

Adamski, I've sort of come to grips with the Honeywell FMC which is good because that's all that Boeings use - if you can make one sing and dance you can make any of them sing and dance. As a bonus the ATR72-500 also has a Honeywell FMC so I can find my way around that fairly well too. The fun comes when I jump into something that has a different sort of FMC ... Plus of course some are more comprehensively modelled than others.

Keep at it, but don't forget how to get by without one smile.gif

Cheers
Gary

I've got that pre-purchased smile.gif

Sadly, my computer will not be able to run it at top level.
