Pulled the pin on my old FS9 install during the weekend, somewhere along the evolution of FSX on my system it had messed around with the FS9 install dry.gif
Nice clean install, bunch of Aerosoft sceneries, a few a/c and AS6.5 to start with... a little reverse engineering to make the FSX Tu-154M work and we're in business! Out of Leipzig to begin with...

The rest of the flight was uneventful, but I began thinking about decent clouds... or the lack thereof sad.gif
A quick dive through the FSX texture folder until I found some REX clouds... 1024x1024, back up the FS9 texture folder and dump these in thumbup1.gif Still some resizing to do... massive FPS hit, but if I sat down and worked through this properly, I'm sure it can be done

Alpha ! brilliant shots and that 154 , i'm sure there was a brilliant model for FS9 , i hav'nt looked at the FSX model yet smile.gif .... that York , be one heck of change after ripping around in that tri-jet - be like flying a Cessna laugh.gif . Course I still use FS9 myself , so many models that can be used for many themes and many you dont want to waste moneys .

Ahhh, Leipzig - I've sat in a train station there for about half an hour. I was actually trying to get a flight there from London last year, as it was the closest big airport to the city I was staying in in Germany, but no budget carriers flew there sad.gif Nice scenery though!

How does this 'reverse engineering' from X to 9 work then? I tried dropping some of the runway and enviroment textures from the pre release demo into my FS2004 folder and it made my sim go crazy colours?? I'm particularly interested in porting some decent FSX exclusive aircraft back into 9...

Cheers smile.gif Yes Ian, the 154 is a quick rehash of the Project Tupolev model modified by some folks and posted on Avsim.ru
PT themselves arent developing an X version of the beast, so this one fills the gap nicely!
Anyone who thinks that the PMDG 744 is a challenge may find the FS9 version of the 154 a bit overwhelming... no FMC, no INS, no GPS... just RSDN-20 and Chayka huh.gif
even has a joystick input gauge, so even a standard joystick with slide throttle will have a reverse detent when flying this model - it also changes the aileron and elevator response rates and latency so it feels like a big heavy b!tch thumbup1.gif

Trolly, I havent tried any of the runway textures as yet, these are just some of the cloud textures created by REX. I think reducing the resolution to 512x512 will help bring the FPS up, while still looking better than the usual AS6.5+FS9 combination.

Nice shots there mate cool.gif Great to see the Tupolev out and about.
I have the FS 9 version and it is a very tricky craft to master. The russian instruments, switches etc take a long time to sort out.

Sorted! Got the cloud textures working pretty well in FS9 now... loaded up FEX this time, made my cloud selection and in the options tab, chose 512x512 resolution. Installed into FSX... then copied the 17 cloud textures that hide in the main FSX textures folder into the FS9 main texture folder, just overwrite the files when asked (you did back up first right?) Fired up FS9, but left AS6.5 off tonight and went with the "fair weather" setting in FS9... solid 30FPS using these clouds thumbup1.gif

Definately need one in the NZ Warbird scene... the sound, the sheer size! I remember seeing one in the states... They are MASSIVE machines for a single seat attack aircraft by any standards.
Anyone who gets to have a look around upstairs at the Classic Flyers museam at NZTG will see what I mean - my 1/72 scale Me-109 is in the next cabinet to my 1/72 scale A-1D and it could almost swallow up the Kraut fighter rolleyes.gif

Hey just a quick question is there a way to modify and use the wet runway and taxi textures from fsx.gif to fs9.gif
It would be awesome if there was a way.

PS Awesome looking pics love the clouds looks so good. thumbup1.gif

What water do you use?

Cheers Dazza smile.gif
So far I havent tried using any other FSX textures apart from the clouds... I'm sure it could be done, but not sure quite what the effect on FPS would be dry.gif
In FSX I didnt really find it all that impressive being that I would only notice it on very short finals and the rollout or takeoff roll - 20-30sec worth tops.

The snow/spray effect from the wheels and the reversers is quite a nice touch, and should be a simple effect to swap into FS9.
Have a browse through the Project Tupolev forums though, as a few guys have come up with some amazingly realistic reverser/spray effects that could be adapted to any a/c happy.gif

unfortunately I had just gone back to idle from reverse in this pic, but theres the snow spray effect...

Water in FS9 is the Zinertek set, using the photoreal option (I think Naki also uses this)

and here for more Tu-154B/M topics... various sceneries and .fx files scattered throughout these, so I hope you like reading rolleyes.gif
