FSX Taranaki

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

David has released this enhancement for the Taranaki region, and its a goodie. A large portion of the region has new landclass, Hawera airport has been added, as have Maui A and B platforms. Additions to New Plymouth city, and the refinery further north also feature. Uses all default FSX objects so Frames don't take a hit. This is a must dowbnload if you fly through the Taranaki in FSX.

Expect some additions and refinements over time. Available now from the ARNZ website.

I'm just a passenger like many others due to computing limitations, but I have to say:
I admire y'all for getting in early and exploring the possibilities.
Goodonya for the exposure too, I'm sure a wonderful FSX world awaits.

Speaking from first hand here..........This is a great enhancement that David has put togeather.....The land class is a massive improvement. You really do feel like your flying or 'the naki' rather than some dry dusty outback country. You get the a real sense of being over lush farm land. FSX has let us down with dry dusty flat land areas (this is perhaps the biggest let down of FSX).........this addon sorts this problem for Taranaki. Thanks your efforts with this one David............Well done :thumbup:

You forget Microsoft Flight Simulation has always been aimed at the mainstream USA market where the majority of its customers are. More detail was given to the North Western Hemisphere than any other because of that market.

Oceania (Aussie and NZ combined) makes up a very very small percentage.

At least they left the window open for external developers to improve the model.

I disagree- MS have put more effort into overseas countries this time around. NZ for instance has roads and a good quality mesh; Auckland has a realistic CBD and a detailed airport- all out of the box. The landclass is really just the only blemish.

You mean per head of population dont you? Considering we only have 4.2 million people compared to the United States thats still just a pin prick of the total user that Microsoft aimed its market at.

When your market is either 10 customers paying $50 or 1000 paying $50 which ones is going to bring in the most revenue <_<

One of the reasons Microsoft was able to offer a improvement is by using the products produced by our developers. Each time the revamp FS they do it on the back of whats been done to improve a earlier version.

If they had done it tot he same quality as the USA this discussion would be mute would it not?

FSX also has this problem in Europe, where there are many more millions of people than NZ. ;)
Of course they would focus more attention on the areas with higher population. :)

The default UK in FSX is on a par with the default NZ (barring a few mesh errors). Ie, nicer roads, better mesh, one or two "feature" airports, and a few incorrecly placed landmarks scattered about. The landclass however, is still abysmal. 'Per capita' I think NZ gets a pretty good deal! :)

Not quite sure what the point is you are trying to make Dreamweaver, this thread is about a scenery release for the Taranaki region for FSX.

Yes Per capita means = per head of population
So no we don't have many people but on a percent basis we are quite high

Anyway ;) ;)

Just installed the scenery and it is GREAT a very good improvement :thumbup:

I was just echoing a observation made ZK-TJL. With a comment that has come up time and time again elsewhere made in referance to why Australia and New Zealand have had a rare deal in Flight Simulation in the past.

Same comments were responded and explained by the VOZ developer, Also I read these comments on Avsim once.

Sorry I did not say cool David but I would think this line would have been compliment enough.

At least they left the window open for external developers to improve the model.

While we can talk back and fourth about our place in the flight sim market, with many valid points being made..........I feel safe in saying we can all agree that Davids scenery here is top notch. :)

would love to have fsx for the taranaki scenery going by the screens, i am a native of hawera, and have always missed it in flight sim, but landing a 747 is a bit tricky in hawera :D

the scenery includes a GPS approach, so that would make it easier..

Thats true Zolt, I was thinking the 300ft grass runway might be little more of an obstacle. BUT, having seen your flying proficiency, I bow down to your flying skills :bow: :bow: . Perhaps after the 'official' portion of the next server is over, we all hike to Hawera and watch you perform this daring feat? :rockon:
