Far out, they must be good pilots to be accepted after that many hours.
Anyway congratulations to him.

I guess none of you guys are lucky enough to be Aussie Citizens?? Im looking to go though Qantas Cadets. Zip to CPL with ATPL Theory Credits, Bachelor in Aviation and Diploma in Flight Management, 2 Years work experience (organised by Qantas), and if that goes well, Qantas SO Position offered.

Although, the price makes $57000 look like a bargain!! :(

I think you will find quite a few kiwis are already on that scheme as they are eligble due to CER/ aussie residence status for NZers(likewise for aussie in NZ with CTC etc) in Aus.

Wow that is low for getting into Eagle!
I always thought the Koru was quite hard to get into, high hour requirements and stuff.
Either Eagle was really desperate, or these guys are really good.

Cheers

I am heading to Brisbane tomorrow for the Australian Aviation Careers Expo to see what is going on in Australia at the moment. I also have made contact with CTC Wings and have been told to call up next week to arrange for a first hand tour (which I asked for).

If you are serious about your career in Aviation you have to go out and get it, don't expect people to give you things, afterall it is a cut throat industry.

It's interesting (and true) what Deane has said about the RNZAF. I have been through PERSEL etc and only missed out in competition, which means i passed the grade, but there were too many people that passed. It worked out that if I had gone on the PERSEL course after the one I attended I would have got in and would now be flying with an operational squadron. I have two friends that are on multi engine conversion at the moment, one is enjoying it, one wishes he'd gone civilian and just done his commercial. So I guess you could say it's a bit give and take.

Personally, I didnt want the 10 year tie in, but thats just me opinion.

I'll let you all know how my day in Brisbane goes, and will also give some feedback on CTC after i've been down to Hamilton and checked it out.

I know some people who work out at CTC and I have been there a few times. Everything there is definitely world class, which is why I intend to go there even though it's quite a lot more expensive than training at an aero club. I am told you are also more likely to get accepted into airlines like Eagle Air because at CTC they teach you how to fly planes like they are airliners.

Thoughts?

I could start their Commercial Pilot Programme when I'm 17, as I will have finsished school before then. I have been thinking I would do all my training privatly at the Flying School, but this training facility has interested me, to my untrained eye, it looks prety good.

I'm after the best, and the quickest, that will set me up for a good carear the best and the soonest. As for price, nothing can be to expensive for this, but I will certainly need to a student loan.

Thanks
James

Hi James, I am 16 am I am looking at becoming a airline pilot. I have been looking around for a good flying school to start my training and I have found that the best ones are in australia. Here are some good links.

I always thought the Rex Cadetship had a bad reputation in some way.
I read a few things on PPRUNE that I will look up now.
Edit: Like this
QUOTE
I was looking at the new REX Cadetship and I have to ask myself is it worth it? You pay 40K upfront and then when you finish you have to pay them back another 40K on a wage which I am led to believe is only 40K. Who in there right mind would go for that? I know 18 year old kids who work for woolies and earn not much less than that and they didn't even finish year 12 and have no training.[/quote]
Of course you can't believe everything you read on the internet winkyy.gif

It doesn't matter that much where you do your training as long as you're good at what you do and don't have the personality of a doorknob wacko.gif

...I think

Why are we always fighting about age!

It makes no difference...

And yes, its 17 not 18!

All this talk about pilot training! Have any of you considered a career in Air Traffic Control? I can guarantee you'll get paid TWICE as much as you get paid as a line instructor at CTC or a First Officer with Eagle. Plus we have much better shifts and superannuation! Airways NZ is actively recruiting at the moment and there is now a chance of being streamed directly to Area Radar or an International Tower, which is where the big bucks are. I personally know of one young lady who worked at HN and WN Towers to fund her flying training and is now First Officer on Vincents Dash-8! Have a look..........

Yeap, I was looking at that. But the age requirement was a bit of a pain. Wasn't really keen on 2 gap years...
