This is a flight I did this morning. I downloaded Glacier Bay v2 but i was getting poor frame rates, so I got some other Glacier Bay scenery from Flightsim.com. Its not quite the same standard as GBv2 but it is good enough and i has no FPS impact! And is only 10mb unlike GBv2.
Search and Rescue - Glacier Bay, Alaska
A party of six have been reported missing about 40 miles north of Haines, Alaska. The group were on a two-week long hunting expdition for black bear and moose. The set out from Haines on the 1st of June and were reported overdue last night at 9:00pm. They could be located within a 20x20 mile region. So it might take days to find them. Alaskan departments say that if they are not found quickly, there is major concern for the groups' safety.
So, I was called by my Bush Flying Unlimted boss this morning at 4:00am, in Skagway:
"Scotty; you there?" He bellowed down the phone.
"Yeeessss" i said back in a tired, groaning voice.
"Mate, we're gonna' need ya. A huntin' party are missin' 60 miles from here. They left from over in Haines on the 1st and report'd missin' last night. 9:00pm. You load up that Husky of yours and go have a search this mornin' you hear me?"
"Roger that boss" I groaned, "I'll be in the air in half an our.
As my bedroom lit up with a fierce bolt of lightning I scampered out of bed and threw on some warm clothes. I peered out the window and saw low mist hanging over the town of skagway. The house shook in the wind. It was going to be a rough flight.
I ran to the dock and quickly checked over the ever-reliable Husky. I jumped inside and fired her up. The plane rock in the gale force winds as I motored out to take off. Check, check, check, full throttle. The Husky skimmed over the rough water and rose up into the cloud above Skagway. Here we go....
As I banked north to head up a narrow valley the Husky dropped suddenly in the severe turbulance. Lightning was lighting up the cockpit as I flew through the mist up the valley. I banked the plane left and right, looking for any sign of the party. I saw a group of figuers on a ridgeline and flew over to it - only to be a pack of woles devouring their kill.
This group will be lucky to be alive in the weather T though as the Husky bounced her way through the Alaskan Wilderness. I carried on scouting the surrounding valleys and plains for the party but there was nothing to be seen. I radioed back to base:
"BFU come in. Do you copy?"
"This is BFU. We copy, over." They replied
"Yeah, boss; i've been searching for two hours now. Nothing. Just snow, snow, wolves, snow, cloud. It's not lookin' good."
"Roger that Husky. Make left and perfrom full stop landing at Haines. We'll meet you there." They said
"Roger BFU. Full stop at Haines."
I banked south and headed down another valley back to Haines. On the way back I looked everywhere fro the group. Still nothing. I touched down at Haines at 8:00am in gusty conditions. We'll do another scout with some choppers when the weather improves. It'll have to be quick.....

Thanks SB
