The plan is to do a degree (BInfSc? Bsc?) at Massey through the Air Force, thus avoiding just about any debt. smile.gif If all goes to plan I'll graduate as a Pilot Officer at the end of next year, do a degree at Massey for three years, then the Wings course (I think). Airways is a Plan B. smile.gif

Hahah, Calculus in the 6th form can't hold a torch to the 7th form course. Sorry if I'm bursting any bubbles here. laugh.gif I could spout off about Differential Equations, and rates of change, but you'll find out in the course of the year. smile.gif

Counts BIG TIME.

Good on ya Mate

Hahah cheers mate, I'm sorta halfway through, still got the interview (sometime December) and the OASB (Apr 09) to go, but so far looks good. smile.gif

Eksss, New Zealand has a weird education system with levels. Im going to have to read up on this subject of education in your country. Its always good to learn what goes on in other parts of our fine world. For me being USA its was simple graduate and get sent to Cape Mary CGAS basic, PJ SAR A school, then officers school and after 12 years president change and regulations and bam im traded to the Canadians Coast Guard, who in turn sent me to Yellowknife for the Winter/Spring and back to Cuba in Summer/Fall for Embassy Duty. Im hoping one day to land in New Zealand to visit your Country's Navy/Volunteer Coast Guard.

god i agree with you. NZ's education system is whack.

coming from the UK where it was all relatively simple, and it all actually mattered NZ is just in the dark ages comared to other systems.

calculus will kill you. you will struggle if you dont do your homework- trust me....

this is coming from someone who does NO homework at all.

The annoying thing about the New Zealand education system, is there is no specific ranking to rate students on a Best-Worse scale. In Australia, you get a score, ranking you in a top percentage of the state/territory.

yea, the problem with that though is that 50% of people will always be below average, there would never be an overall "everybody is awesome" possibility. the other problem with education, from a students point of view, is too much emphasis on "take notes, study, and get good grades or you will be homeless" and slim-to-none on getting people genuinly interested in the subjects. more interaction is needed. field trips for every subject should be compulsary. having classes outside for a change would make it alot more enjoyable. thats why people wag - they hate school because it is "boring" and "thier teachers suck" etc.

I don't find the New Zealand education system great at all but they do have there Achieved, Merit and Excellence grading system in place. It will seperate people who get higher grades though winkyy.gif

haha, yea about that... as i said before- i do no homework at all. i am an incredibly lazy learner and i hardly pay attention in class.

i have passed one chemistry internal with excellence, one with merit, one physics internal with merit and one calc internal with merit.

its a joke. excellence is hard, yes, but merit is simple. and Not acheived in externals... you'd have to be a muppet. (i straight failed all english essays last year but 5 out of 6 subjects aint bad)

Well, maths is compulsory, but I'm in the accelerant class, and so have to do Level 2 (I'm doing Level 1 maths this year)
Sorry about the confusion

Well in Queensland, its VLA LA SA HA VHA, as in Very Low, Low Standard etc for just your standard reports/exams, but once you finish Grade 12 (final year) you get an OP (Overall Position) 1-25, 1 being the best. OP 1 means your in the top 1-2% of the state or whatever, and so on so forth.

NCEA is lacking in many areas, but I don't see the need for having more than four separate grade levels. It beats School C where a percentage of students were guaranteed to fail no matter what. It's just the other way now: it's made for dummies. Excellence isn't all that hard to get. Having your certificates endorsed with Merit or Excellence will help in this way too.

As for subjects I'm doing next year... I'm not sure, but definitely:
Physics
Chemistry
Religious Education compulsory
English compulsory, but probably B-level course for easiness
Maths - compulsory, probably an A-level course. I wouldn't do Cambridge again. And one more, but I'm not sure what, maybe young enterprise.
