NZFF

We may forego the normal comp this month, and instead source some screenshots which can be used to promote NZFF at the Tauranga airshow.
Next month's banner will promote the airshow visit.
Details are yet to be finalised, but it would be the ideal time to think about how you would promote simming in general, and the forum in particular.

Think in terms of a broad range of simming aspects -- from the traditional heavies realism, online flying, both structured and casual fun, GA/aeroclub flights, through to aircraft/scenery/mission development.

It may be useful to get a number of screenshots from each member who wants to participate. Since we may use a few images, there may not be a prize, but think of this as a fun way to contribute to the forum:)

I have started going through previously posted screenshots from this forum saving the best.

Just 1 question to our members, should the screenshots just be NZ themed from flight sims like FSX, FS9 and IL2 ?

Also if anybody has an specific images or vids they would like me to show promoting any projects they are doing or have done let me know.

I thought about this when I posted above, and nearly mentioned it, but didn't want to give the impression that I've already decided how this will work:)

I can't see any problem with someone who regularly visits other parts of the world supplying their favourite shots -- I tend not to do much simming outside NZ, but a lot of people do, and that may be an attraction to gain new members at the show.

Maybe the 'theme' can be 'what keeps me simming', or something similar, so that people can express their own favourite aspects whatever they are.

Do you mean strictly related to the scope of our promotional material? If your particular love is PMDG or Orbx, for instance, then go for it.

If you are talking about other developer's involvement, then I'll leave that up to the forum. NZ developers should be given plenty of encouragement. I would love to see local projects promoted, whether or not they are payware.

And there's certainly a place for developers from outside NZ, provided they pay well:)

A wee disclaimer:
The type of involvement I'm looking for (as chief sponsor) is separate but equal. I don't want to impose my preferences on NZFF, and I'm happy to organise my side of things, but I will make suggestions as a member of NZFF. Like any member, you can take it or leave it.

This is always a concern to me, being NZ's only established payware developer as well as a NZFF administrator. If anyone feels that I'm railroading or stepping outside my bounds, then please voice your concerns.

I'd say save any prize for the *next* comp. The inducement to promote NZFF ought to be enough!

Just to clear up, though - are we also inviting videos? As a separate comp? If so, we may want to add some general guidelines (format, maximum length etc.).

Also - for those people that are keen to record/submit videos, maybe a link to a thread that gives basic instructions <?>

Just to clear things up, this months Screenshot Competition is not so much a competition but an opportunity for NZFF members to contribute screenshots of what they like to use their flight sim for. It can be from FS9,FSX or other flight sims like IL2(I know there's lots of IL2 fans who are members here). So I can display their images at the NZFF stall at the Tauranga Airshow

That reminds me. This applies to screenshots and videos -- please give some serious thought to resolution. Whereas a 900px wide image may be great for a web banner, for anything else bigger is better.

I don't know what plans there are for video yet, but the same thing goes -- if I was putting together a video presentation, I'd want the highest resolution available to start with -- ie raw FS footage, with very little compression.

Excellent Vid Shadow, some lovely sequences there.

Having a rolling video playing onsite is a great idea. Be nice to have some other footage too with a few more kiwi aircraft icons and maybe locations that passers-by could be asked to identify, maybe win something (Rob

) if they're not affiliated w NZFF.org if the spot the most number of airports or scenery locations?

I will admit, the King Air 200 that you see a bit of in the video (AFG's excellent freeware model) has done wonders in rekindling my interest in General Aviation type aircraft. Until I downloaded that one, I mainly stuck to military aircraft, namely fighters. The detail and realism in the AFG King Air are such that I love flying it, and on many a flight sim I will take it up instead of a fighter jet just to better enjoy the scenery. One of other reasons I like it so much is that when I use Active Camera, I can get a much better passenger's eye view of the flight than the default GA aircraft (which typically don't support Active Camera).
