Now that I've got FS working again, I decided to do a nice easy little flight to get me started: Ardmore to Reeves, in a DC-3.
No Pics, sorry, I didn't think to take any, but I might take a couple for my next few flights.
Take off went nice and smooth, had a nice slow cruise over to Reeves, I have some sort of Scenery thing on, but I'm not sure what it is (It had two files to put in the Addon Scenery folder, North Island and South Island).

I soon caught sight of the landing strip.... Oh dear! It's a bit shorter than I expected tongue.gif
Anyway, touched down about 6 meters away from the threshold, and full brakes! Stopped just at the end of the runway. Turned around (courtesy of the map's Heading function smile.gif ) and headed off. Currently at S37 0.60' ; E175 2.82' Heading 172, Just looking at Ardmore go past out of my right hand window! Not sure where I'm going, but we'll see, eh?
Might pop up to Coramandel or Matarangi a bit later.

Gosh, it's nice to be back in the air!

I hope that was the Warbirds DC-3 you took up winkyy.gif
I went to the open day again this year, and she's still a breathtaking sight - not to mention the sound!

I managed to land the FSX DC-3 on the little strip at Coromandel once but my passengers jumped off and got the ferry back to Auckland laugh.gif

I live 30 minutes away from Ardmore, and my school is about 15 minutes away from Ardmore, and is right over the approach to NZAA. Whenever I'm bored in class, I just look out the window, and I'll see something!
Next thing on the to-do list is to find the DVD Case for FSX so I can activate and play for more than 30 minutes at a time!

Slowly building up to longer flights. Did a couple of the tutorial missions today to get used to the sim again, and then flew from Ardmore to Matarangi and back in the 172. Again, no screenshots, because my scenery looks rubbish (not as bad as default, but not great). Can anyone suggest some good free bits and pieces? Cheers.

You sure chose a challenging aircraft and short tricky strip to get back into things !!!!!!!!!!
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

I'm getting into this quite seriously now! tongue.gif
Full realism, learning VOR navigation (well, trying to, through the learning center- 1 video tutorial on youtube demonstrated a lot better!)
I've got the pedals from my USB Steering wheel set up to add rudder (no twist on my joystick, and no numpad on the laptop), but FSX hasn't recognised them yet, but I'll try restarting (the Sim, the Wheel, and the computer)

I think I downloaded too much scenery from Avsim/Flightsim.com/simviation because my internet has suddenly got /very/ slow.

In 2 days I've managed to pick up about 12 hours of flight time (and had to give the laptop back to my brother for a while!) and 43 landings- I should probably go outside... Nah, I've got to get as much in as possible before he takes the laptop away to the US of A for 3 weeks (he leaves tomorrow).

Sounds like it might be worth saving up for a PC that you don't have to loan out winkyy.gif

Heh, I use this Desktop more often than the Laptop, but for some reason it doesn't want to install FSX! Maybe it will do it now that we've got 2GB RAM...
Must try re-installing (If I can find Disk 2. If not, I may have to Copy and Paste the entire C:Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X directory over!)
