C-5, Nimrod and AWAC 748

Ive been busy tweaking (sim & photo editing).....these aint to bad (cloudscapes again), so i thought i would share, as you do.











C-5 by AREA51, Nimrod from UKMIL, and of course Mr Pipers timeless 748 . Nimrod was inspired by that great screen in the november competition by Dart15

Love the pics

I felt like adding a gigantic sized aircraft to the hangar, so got hold of the Area 51 C-5 the other day. Have only just loaded it and had a bit of a perv at it through the various views while parked on the tarmac. Looking forward to flying it and taking a few screenies to share.

Christchurch 1974 , our first visit with by the Galaxy , it flew over the city , back then it really was huge to compare to nothing , in later years i crawled around it further and even got into the UC gear wells , to studied the castings - again now i wish i had a good camera , was a awesome feat of engineering .

The Nimrod , was 1988 - and were i got my name 'Radar' from a good friend John Tucker .... Australian Bicentenial Airshow , on the horizon ole 'Tuck' could not believe my eyeball targeting system , later to prove it again - happened to spot the 52 in circle over Richmond hour and a bit before it displayed , a Guam based Strat cycled before three passes before returning to Anderson .

Ricks AWACS 748 , hecks the mid 80s they tried to put this disc on to every type possible .

superb screenies Marty, I was considering buying the area 51 C-5 as well, and I do love those Nimrods !. poor little 748 having a giant flapjack stuck on top of her lol!!

Nice Nimrod, but Galaxy #2 is the one headed into photo territory...happens when you de-saturate the colours a tad.

Yep, that C5's a big lady alright - nice pics, clouds notwithstanding... Hey, at least we can SEE the aircraft you're trying to show us now, Marty

Thanks to you too Ian...you are a fountain of information.As much as i love the C-5, Istill think the old 141 was a great aircraft...shame there isnt a good one now for FSX, the old alpha one just isnt right anymore.

Thanks AB.....I had the same thought about the 748.I wonder if it (the flapjack) is areodynamic, i guess it must be to a degree. And the nimrods....love them too.I can remember a Fincastle exercise at Whenuapai years ago, and the poms had one there....awesome power...and the noise ....

You are so right Charl.....i get torn between trying for a good looking screen shot of a sim....or a sim of a good looking photo........sharpen, gamma correct, offset, saturation....maybe i should just leave them raw.

Cheers Pete.....I really love the clouds and the water effects.....but once Im a VLC guy, things might change. I have been very aware of includeing aircraft in the shots since that last episode

Perhaps every now & again you could do a compare for us? A "raw" shot and a "Marty's special" shot?

Of the shots above, I love the colours in the 1st one, and the interesting angle / detail of the C-5 in the 2nd. And as with so many of your shots, they are most certainly bordering on photo-real.

And regarding the clouds - I'm really just teasing. In fact, by having clouds as your backdrop it really makes the aircraft you're show-casing stand out. I do like a good shot that has water, land and sky in it, but often it is hard to get great looking ground scenery. And sometimes, the background is more interesting than the aircraft, and that just doesn't seem right in a FLIGHT simulator. Good on ya mate - keep them rolling.

I,m sure there is a Starlifter in the wings , least work on one for X , don,t no why , i have a complete flight manual here and forget us guys so Aeroplane minded 'Templeton Primary School' put in a request to have an airframe and put in a park since during the ICE season the C141 A-B-C variants flew directly over the school heading south .

Ian, ive thought for a long time now, that the land on your left...just as you get to the last roundabout before the airport, would be a great place for a "national aviation museum" maybe get that poor old dak from ferrymead, and the 141 you mention, and maybe an LC-130......and the first ANZ 737 is sitting in a desert somewhere...........CHC is more historic than anywhere else in NZ....the ideal place to have a museum.
