We had someone come into our store in Perth, and donate $1000. Wish I had met them, would of shaken their hand. Woolworths in Aussie are taking collection through the registers. Over this week our store (in a very poor area) raised over $2500. Not enough, but still a start, and if all the stores in Aussie can get that a week for a few weeks, will go down well.
When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

Hi Ade,
thanks for your suggestion. I found now a link on http://www.redcross.org.nz/cms_display.php?sn=55&st=1 to make a donation. I hope it can help a little bit.

Hahaha - About the only thing that guy could predict is that the sun will come up and that it will set. As for his earthquake predictions - his broad based wide sweeping predictions are almost always wrong. However his followers will always concentrate on the few coincidental times where he got it right. And I don't believe he predicted tuesdays earthquake at all?

I am not a Ken Ring convert but he is right more of the time than the NZ met service.

This was written on the 14th Feb.

For an earthquake to occur many factors have to come together, but sun activity, full moon and perigee are arguably the most potent, and they are all starting to chime now. Over the next 10 days a 7+ earthquake somewhere is very likely. This could also be a time for auroras in the northern hemisphere and in the southern tip of NZ. It may also be a time for whale strandings because of increases in underwater earthquakes. The 7+ is sure to be somewhere in the "Ring of Fire", where 80% of all major earthquakes seem to occur, and NZ is at the lower left of this Ring. The range of risk may be within 500kms of the Alpine Fault.

What did we get? Whale strandings and a 6 plus earthquake that felt more like a 7 plus.

March 20th is the next full moon and perigee and the prediction is for a quake epicentre somewhere between Hanmer and Amberley . There is also the same conditions occurring in April which will be the last for some time but may be more flood related than seismic.

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Thinking of everybody down there in Chch ... I hate to think what it's like to be in such a situation, but you can bet that we were running round Mitre10 on the weekend getting fittings to brace bookshelves and the telly. Now to work on the rest of the emergency package! Be prepared people and it might make it a little easier... I'm in the hawkes Bay so we're not shy of the odd rock n roll, but nothing like in Chch. The whole country has been touched by this in one way or another ... friends, relatives etc. My partner is a nurse ... we may not be in Chch but she's covering for those that can be, and I'm at home with the kids so she can do the extra shifts .... this sort of thing will be repeated throughout the country no matter what business you're in.

Ken Ring is an interesting subject ... very contentious. I have been watching with interest for awhile now ... not sure of the facts but he can be uncanny with his philosophy and observations. He can also be a right plonker .... but imagine if he's actually onto something ...

Enough of the deep and meaningful,

Well hes prity much got March covered , a scare monger , maybe we should tie the plonker to a post , the Southern side off the 'Grand' would be ideal .

Well if you read the Herald this morning you will find that the Seismologists are spreading more gloom than Ken is.
Unbelievable that this terrible situation can continue on for so long.

Just back from Wanaka where we felt the quake as a slight tremor. Never imagined the utter devastation it represented!

Our hearts go out to all the people of Christchurch who have lost so much in lives and their beautiful city and hope that they get all the support they need to start recovery and rebuilding.

Glad to see that members in that area are at least safe and our thoughts are with you.

Best wishes to all in Christcurch.

Glad to hear all are OK. Just finished a shift in the inner city, went for a patrol around the central cordon tonight. Sadly our town is in a bad way this time. Last quake the media made the damage to look far worse than it was. Seems to be the other way around this time. The scale of destruction up close is epic. I must however say that I am damned proud to be a kiwi seeing the resolve, organisation and comradeship of the vast majority of all those involved, whether they be the public caught in the middle of it or the civil defence rescue effort, inclusive of all the nationalities who came to our aid. Also not to be understated is the massive effort and support from the rest of the country. Bloody good effort I say! thumbup1.gif

N.B. There is a very minute minority of the population who are trying to capitalise on the misery of others by trying to loot peoples property. These people are predominantly former criminals anyway, and have recieved far more press than they should, as the are a drop in the bucket of the honest motivated masses. If they are caught by us, they will regret their poor decision making... smiliz2.png

Ack, thanks mate. Will do. If you, Ian and anyone else are around on Sun it would be a good chance to catch up. I will be doing a long shift tomorrow, so that will be out.

Cheers
