The only problem is that many entries are optimised for a banner/letter-box shape - which, I think, is *how it should be*. The banner (which many people worldwide will look at) needs to look good. Any splash pic created from the winning shot would be *secondary* to that. So .. don't let the square-ish splash pic shape cramp your style in the monthly screencomp. Treat the splash pic as a bonus, not a requirement.
Anyway - on top of the regular comp, we're thinking that maybe a totally separate (additional) *splash pic* competition once a year or so could be a good idea.
