Postby dart15 » Sun May 27, 2012 9:55 am

Does anybody have a copy of this scenery package that they may be willing to sell to me? Must be version 3. Long shot I know but.........

I cant locate any available supplies.

Cheers

Thanks Ian - that's odd. Go to the Playsim (Play Horizon) site and everything is sold out!! I was looking particularly for the Version 3, combined Vols 1 - 3 package rather than the individual products which are quite expensive! I should have bitten this particular bullet when I had the chance before. I already have the VFR UK Airports series which are very good. Just need the photoreal scenery to compliment them now smile.gif

Playhorizon was hacked and has been down for months. Although it's back now this probably explains why they're out of stock. However they are run by Flightstore and the box set is still available direct from their own site:

VFR Photographic Scenery Volumes 1-3 Box set for FSX

I can vouch for Flightstore as a good, friendly and reliable company. I'd be happy to help out with sourcing it if it's a problem for you.

Alternatively, I have a complete set (4 volumes) of the Just Flight VFR product I'm looking to sell. I also use UK Airports so moved over to Horizon myself but the Just Flight product is good and has more up to date photo coverage than Horizon's. I believe it works with UK Airports with some very small alignment issues.

Hope that helps,

Ade

Thanks for the info Ade - much appreciated. I was aware that Horizon came in for some criticism when they released v3 due to the dated photo coverage but I think I'll go with it for compatibility reasons and it wont irk me so much as it would if I was still in the UK and therefore more aware of its shortcomings!

You're welcome. The aerials are about ten years old now (the same source as the original Just Flight VFR package, the developers of which evolved into Horizon) but still work really well and are much higher resolution in the Horizon FSX package. Personally I found the problem introduced with V3 was more to do with the high-res city inserts they have added. Many of these, nice though they are, are not colour corrected to match the surrounding original aerials so stick out noticably. Overall though, Horizon's the best UK VFR and is improving with each release. The new Scotland volumes are superb, as is the Republic of Ireland.

Just one other thing to note... buy Treescapes as well. It's by Earth Simulations and adds tree objects throughout the Volume 1-3 area based on Ordnance Survey data. It makes a massive difference to the experience and totally removes the "flat" look and feel of the UK VFR scenery. Treescapes is available in a Volume 1-3 bundle and is fully compatible with the UK2000 airports.

Cheers,

Ade

We are now selling these titles at PC Aviator Australia - and have limited stock available at present. I do have the three "Version 3" FSX titles available at present as well as Treescapes.
More than happy to ship to NZ (or anywhere for that matter). They are the individual product boxes however and not the boxed set you had mentioned.

Hi Paul,

Volume 7 hasn't been released yet. They have said it's in preparation at the moment.

Thanks Ade...

Makes a lot of sense to me they had released Vol 8, 9 and 10.

I couldn't understand why I couldn't find Vol 7... that explains a lot.

Hi Paul,

You're welcome. This is the first time aerial photo coverage has been done for Scotland. All the previous VFR packages have been England and Wales only, as I understand it because any aerial imagery of Scotland taken in the past was too obscured by heavy cloud cover. The Scottish VFR Gen X volumes are all newly flown coverage but to avoid this problem the photo shoots have had to be done at different times in the year and also certain areas "filled in" subsequently. That's the reason for the odd order. Scotland Central is most badly affected by cloud cover.

Treescapes by Earth Simulations is well worth getting to go with the VFR Gen X range, as it totally transforms the look of the scenery and removes its "flat" out of the box look. Also the FSX Power Project by Ray Porter (freeware) adds a huge number of pylons, power stations, wind farms and other 3D objects, including in areas not yet covered by VFR Gen X. This also has some similar coverage for NZ. Once Scotland VFR Gen X is complete, I'm also going to buy the Scotflight scenery which adds many custom 3D landmarks but is still fully compatible with Horizon.

Cheers,

Ade

Ade

I can vouch for Scotflight: when I got Vols 4 and 5, I ended up getting most of the Scotflight's products too to compliment the islands, plus the mainland. It added a lot to the immersion of the area. RAF Bases package was a good add on and then the photo realistic compatibility of the isles added that wow factor.

As for treescapes I wondered why they didn't add that as part of the original packages, as it was I thought the playsims products where priced a bit on the high side, but I guess they did their market research and have to cover their costs of aerial photography and development of the products. It is when you add up the costs it makes the cost of VFR UK rather pricy.

Thanks for the heads up for the power project.

I'll drop a few shots of Vol 8 tonight, I installed it last night and defragging at the moment

Cheers Paul

I grabbed the Treescapes freebie but can't take advantage of the sale as I have all of Earth Simulations' brilliant products already! laugh.gif

They're doing a Scotland Treescapes bundle once Scotland Central is out so I'm waiting for that as the England and Wales bundle I've already got was great value for money.

I'm planning to keep the British Isles in FSX as my existing Horizon photoreal and install the Orbx releases into P3D as I've done with Orbx NZ. That way I can have the best of both worlds. thumbup1.gif
