Nvidia 2d surround

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Hoping someone here might be able to offer some advice... I've been looking through posts on various forums trying to find someone who has a similar setup to what I am trying to achieve with FSX as I'm not 100% sure if I can achieve what I want to do... so I was hoping your knowledge and experience might help.

I want to run three monitors in 2D surround off my Nvdia 670 card which will display the virtual cockpit. Then I want a 4th monitor to display instruments - this would be a 2D panel in FSX. Ideally the 4th display would be connected to the displayport (with a dvi adaptor) however I don't know if it is possible to display an FSX window on the monitor connected to the displayport?

I also wondered whether it makes a difference as to what can be displayed where if FSX is run in windowed mode as opposed to fullscreen? Presently I run FSX in fullscreen mode as I get better FPS.

If it is not possible to run the 4th monitor off the displayport then I have another gpu I can install and use for the 4th monitor ( a gtx 460) but again I'm not 100% sure this will work happily in conjunction with Nvdia surround.

I currently have just 2 monitors with a 3 rd on its way and I'm also using our hdmi tv to test some of this theory out on (much to the annoyance of the rest of the family) but it's quite difficult to test with the tv in another room!

Anyway, if you can give me any advice or knowledge you can share it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi crubz

I can help with some of your questions as I have a 670GTX with 3 monitors in surround.

First off you can check the requirements for nVidia 2d surround here. There's quite a good tool to see what requirements and capabilities are available for the specific card you have. For a 670GTX I picked up the following...

GeForce GTX 670 Single GPU With 2D Surround(Landscape)
> Orientation: Landscape
> Accessory Display: Yes, no additional GPU
> Maximum Resolution: 7600x1600
> Maximum Resolution (Bezel Correction): 8192x1600
> Maximum number of displays: 3 in Surround
1 Accessory Display

special Instructions:
> Any connectors can be used to enable Surround.
> Once Surround is enabled, users can use
any connector for the Accessory Display.

It mentions 3 displays in surround (what I have) with one "accessory" display. I don't know exactly what is possible there so you'll have to do a bit more digging. What you will see though is that any of the 4 connections can be used for the surround displays.

Now I can only get surround to work in full screen, which makes sense, but I'm not sure what that means for the accessory display.

Hope that helps.

Thanks JJ... yeah it's the "accessory" display part that I just can't seem to find a definitive answer to what it can and cannot be used for in regards to FSX - I've been doing a fair amount of the digging you mention but to no avail, hence my posting here -especially after seeing zkcav's image posted earlier in this thread that shows 5 monitors, and also that you yourself are running a surround setup. Really appreciate your reply, thanks.

No problem at all. Sorry I couldn't help more.

I guess some folks with multiple screens are also using multiple computers!
