Hello my NZ Chums....

Just spotted this on my BBC News...>>> http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-26524132

What do you reckon?

I always see New Zealand as a close companion of England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, and together with Canada and Australia, the closest community to us!

Is New Zealand still full of Ancient Brits, looking like Ancient Brits, and speaking English...(NOT American)?... winkyy.gif ...!

Your opinions...including the change of flag?

Paul.... biggrin.gif ...!

..and just for a laugh...>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYeFcSq7Mxg ..... laugh.gif ...!

Paul .. funny you should say that ... "Is New Zealand still full of Ancient Brits, looking like Ancient Brits, and speaking English" I was in the Canterbury Museum doing research on the first four ships that arrived at - in Lyttleton in 1840 - another drawing , .. a flag change and go away from the dominion is in order, and I personal think it should co-inside with APRIL 25th and in the year 2015 .. be a fitting Tribute !

AS for Eddie .. hes scores! laugh.gif

Ta for the reply, Ian!... biggrin.gif ..!

I'm always interested/fascinated with ethnic origins in different countries.....

In New Zealand...>>> http://www.stats.govt.nz/Census/2006Census...ew-zealand.aspx

...and ...>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_New_Zealand

In North America...>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_t...e_United_States

Paul..A Very Ancient Briton... cool.gif ...!

I am always curious as to the ethnic origins of my Commonwealth, and North American, familiar Flight Sim Chums... winkyy.gif ...!
Many of my regular North American Flight Sim chums I see as ex-pats from the UK long, long ago!

Question 1. No, parts of our major cities reflect the trends you have in the UK. Many Asians, many Indians, a huge Pacific Island representation. Ancient Brits are long gone.

Question 2. This will be a vexed question. I personally would like a flag change to something distinctive to separate us from the near identical Australian one, however there are many who don't.
There is a strong Returned Serviceman lobby who don't, just as one example. I think this one will "go down to the wire."

I think it would be nice for a change. Something that distinctly represents New Zealand, although I would like to see a nod to its heritage, same colours for example, etc, rather than a black/white fern or such like.

I do understand the service mans perspective but the armed forces fight under a flag and for the country, not for a flag....in my view....

aren't there enough REAL things to worry about rather than all the hype, money and time that will be wasted on this sort of BS.
We already have a flag, everyone knows it, it works so why 'fix' it ...

suck it up people, move on and get to the real problems.

I don't think that anyone looking for a new flag would define this as a 'problem', except in the graphic design sense of the word -- the problem is we are a growing, vibrant, open and responsive economy geographically aligned with Asia and the Pacific, looking for an identity which expresses this.

So throwing money at it is good for everyone, especially the tax collectors, the more active money out there means more taxes.

There's still the fact that John Key is waving a pretty flag in one hand, saying look at this, isn't it great!, while hiding the other -- empty --hand behind his back, in the run-up to the election.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, bread and circuses are part of life, and some people who need it may actually get some of the bread...

(Yes, I would like a new flag. Yes, I'll still vote for John Key.)

...and the good thing about it is that it will be decided by referendum...vox populi, the voice of the people....except for the bloke up
in the tower and even he seems to have an opinion....? laugh.gif

Our history is tied up in that flag. We haven't gone through any majorly traumatic events like a holocaust or apartheid so why change it? Who gives a s**t if Australia has a similar flag. That's totally irrelevant. We actually had ours first so it's a redundant argument.

Secondly, the PM nattles on about cost cutting a lot. I work in the public sector, we're cash strapped and suffering massively for it. Think about how many flags will need to be changed after this:

3x defence + associated pennants
Customs
Police
Fire

The list goes on. This is a cover move for some kind of policy that coming up. And to have the referendum on the centenary of Gallipoli. The gall.

Agree 100% .... move on , who cares! Im sick and tired of being fed what some editor thinks he/she thinks i need to know.
Im sick of hearing about (for example) that legless murderer in south africa , or who wore what to the whatever awards .....

I troll through all the news outlets daily , and disregard at least 90% of it ..... im not saying that if 'anna x ' wore a too short skirt to the party isn't important .... im sure it is to some sheeple
but at least get some balance in the reporting.

Re the subject (Flag) I dont care ... ive spent a good part of my life in the military , and at no point did i consider myself defending , in what ever capacity , a piece of cloth .... country yes , lifestyle ...yes . You could run a pair of grannies bloomers up a bloody flagpole it wouldn't matter ..... to me at least.... its where your from. When in uniform , it was the "New Zealand" flash on my shoulder that made me feel proud .... not a flag.

Dont think im unpatriotic ...im not , its just that there are far more important things to give our energy too .... like gangs , police numbers, emergency housing in flood /earthquake prone areas... and so on .

Just old and grumpy i guess , but as Towerguy said "suck it up "

Now that's a flag which slowly burns its way into my eyeballs every time I watch a "Hollywood Movie", or view anything and everything to do with the U.S. of A.

The Spar Spangled Spanner!

There is little, or no escape from it.... sad.gif ...!

I find it so annoying...(and I suspect lots of other folks around the rest of World think alike)...The current flag of occupation?

So much importance put on a piece of coloured cloth!

Don't get me wrong. I love my North American Flight Sim Chums to bits!.... biggrin.gif...I just wish they wouldn't keep poking me in the eye with that bloody annoying flag!

Paul.... dry.gif ...!
