"they really are not all that noisey " ..... sort of 707 noise Ian ? I thought they would be screamers , Ive only seen one on the ground so i have no idea.
Thanks for looking , if you know where i shot it ... you will be aware that , that was a bad take of ..... drifted way to the left and only a few feet of tarmac left.
It flew , but only just ... flaps were set at the first notch , which gives you a lot on this thing. I had many a RTO with this i first got it ..... but i can land it ok.
Its a bit like the old WOP B-29 .... if the set up wasn't right , there was no way that thing would fly ... i had some (simmed) puker moments in that ..... until i read the book winkyy.gif

You would be very surprised ... they are very very quiet , probably much a 707/DC-8

If I was to caption that it would be something like this....

Thanks for that .... you just assume 8 engines = big noise , but i suppose they aren't very big engines ... thats why there's 8 of them , i wonder why the didnt hang 2 big high bypass fans on each side ?
Its amazing to think that these aircraft are normally 20 to 30 years older than the boys that fly them.
In the vid Ham posted , i noted the pilot was a captain (USAF), so chances are he wasnt born when that aircraft was built .... amazing beast.

Maybe the early days the older jets being extra less the fan more jet .. Big fans had there problems in the late 60s early 70s the C5 and 74 were popping them but got sorted pretty quick ... I do have a photo off a B-52 getting using .. course the NASA jobbie as an engine testbed ... had to go inner wing simply to keep it off the ground .. early GE .

Ive got a doco here on the Buff (may have mentioned before) and this USAF guy said "when they fly the last B-2 to the bone yard , they'll fly the crew home in a B-52"
