Post and comment on screen captures from the beautiful game here. Home of the monthly screenshot competition

Just a quick question...I've noticed that the screen size is always capped at 1280 wide. Is there a particular reason for this? Just always been curious about it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think because otherwise it won't fit on the site. I posted some pictures that were in the native resolution as I took them (1920x1080), but a big part isn't on the screen and can only be seen when moving a slider. This way you can't see the whole picture at once and that's something you don't want at a competition.

Interesting...I never have that issue unless I've "zoomed" in manually with Ctrl+mouse scroll wheel...but otherwise I never have an issue seeing the whole image. I've also submitted in other screen shot comps with no cap size and never had an issue with the native HD screens from anyone's shots before. I suppose It's not really a big deal. Just thinking if it's been a relic from a while back when most people had smaller max resolution minitors? Maybe it's worth an update? If not, no biggie. smile.gif I don't want to be "that guy" so to speak...lol.

1024 wide was the original base size for the banner when the competition was started 8/9 years back simply due most peoples monitor size back then , then widened to 1280 to suit wider screens 5/6 years and kept there for ease of editing at the end month.

Yes, the previous limit of 1024 certainly was. A lot of people still have smaller monitors, so 1280 is a good compromise. What surprises me is that not everyone takes advantage of the full 1280 limit, which handicaps some entries, I think.

You can link your screenshot to the full-sized shot if you want, but there is nothing worse than having to scroll around to see an entry.

The banner has been up sized to 1200px wide and it is cropped to keep the height down to around 365 to 370px.

The 1280px wide fits the average screen size of around 22 to 24 inch monitors

The 1024 is the biggest size that anyone using Photobucket can get since they changed and ruined their whole system to cater for the new generation with I-Pads, androids etc.

So that is the main reason why it has been left at size between 1024 and 1280

I did put this aside a while back, but now might be the time to bring it up -- Postimageoffer a way to integrate image hosting into most types of forum, and it does look pretty simple to set up and use. The admin might want to look at this and discuss it at one of your meetings.
