The passenger or (PAX) MD-11 will make her last flight at October the 26th this year from Toronto to Amsterdam.
KLM announced that that there will be 3 goodbye flights for everyone that's interested on (what date else) 11-11-2014, the tickets are 111 Euros.

I'm really gonna miss this bird, it was always something different than all those T7s, A330s and 767's. Besides that she is just the best looking airliner ever build imo winkyy.gif
Just a screenie because she's so beautiful!

Completely true! Every tri-jet has the #2 engine at the place where normally the APU houses and the air is delivered by a S-duct in the tail. Only the DC-10 and MD-11 have the #2 engine in the tail. And it looks so much better than the other tri-jets!

Frankly, all the tri-jets have a unique design appeal ... most famous and longest lasting course a Boeing , the big babe's tho .. the Tristar/DC-10 .. in design features and looks the Deek wins out above the rest - lead in the MD11 !

Fantastic real looking shot, hardly to believe it's not a photo. very well done.
I was passenger in this plane in Sep2012 for a flight between Shiphol and New Delhi in India(and back is same plane).
Was really comfortable with good services and in my opinion quiter than in a B747. A pitty that KLM stops flying this bird.

One thing said about the DC-10/MD-11 series, it is a real pilots aircraft, with the noise, one I did pick up on in last flights the Boeing 777 was noisier than the 747 .... I believe it simply the position you are sitting in the aircraft and I always take a window and nose glued to the outside.

Never had the chance to fly with the MD-11 and I'll never will again sadly... And they stop flying this bird because it's getting too expensive to maintain, due it's age. Only some KLM 747's are older, but there are many 747's still flying and there's no shortage of spare parts. However, there are just 260 MD-11's produced, that and the fact that McDonnel Douglas doesn't exist anymore (fused with Boeing) makes it an expensive aeroplane to fly. KLM only flew the MD-11 for so long because they had a very cheap lease-deal on the planes, otherwise they would've been replaced years ago.

I have to agree that the DC10/MD11 is one of the best looking airliners ever built. Beautiful lines. Nice pic.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

True, the MD-11 will fly only as a freighter from October (since KLM is the only operator left with the passenger version), but Lufthansa is replacing their MD-11Fs for 777Fs and Martinair is also ditching their MD-11Fs. But that's because it's part of the freightdivision of AirFrance/KLM and that branch isn't doing so well lately...
