Now my question is....why is "ZK-COR" painted up as # '8', VF-17 Jolly Rogers when she is an old NZ aircraft? She use to be painted in RNZAF colours. Why did they change her?

This Corsair was replaced by the early birdcage painted in a factious paint, when this aircraft came in country it was still in its US Navy livery, due to the condition they have kept the scheme probably due to cost.

Can not quite follow what you are saying there Ian... Sorry?chopper_nut wrote:QUOTE (chopper_nut @ Jan 10 2015,9:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I saw Keith Skilling flying it in the UK in its proper livery. The P40 is a NZ machine as well but that's in that dumb 'Flying Tigers' scheme. At least the Avenger is painted properly.
I was under the same impression that when she was in Europe she was in her true NZ colour scheme but came to NZ and she was changed to the current scheme. Yes? Why not leave her in the RNZAF colours...? Is there some sort of US investment in "The Stick and Rudder Company" and she need to be in her "Jolly Rodgers" colours for funding?

The first flying Corsair in the NZ was a birdcage and with RNZAF livery, now sits in a museum in South America.

Cool... Now I follow you. My thing was, that the ZK-COR (The current airworthy Corsair in NZ) was originally an RNZAF Corsair and was restored and painted up in RNZAF colours while in Europe (I could be mistaken?) So why was she repainted in the "Jolly Rodgers" paint scheme and not left in the colours of RNZAF?Last edited by Timmy74 on Sun Jan 11, 2015 8:47 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Whilst in Europe it still was an ex RNZAF machine from the period but was painted with the 'Jolly' scheme.
