The only thing to be aware of is what Orbx call 'Negligible VAS impact', due to the increased texture size. So if you have problems with VAS, this won't help. But performance-wise, they use just the same 'models' as default, so there shouldn't be any impact.
With Orbx's own regional trees (such as FTX NZ trees) HD Trees are a bit more optimised, I think, so with FTX NZ you can get better performance. I haven't tested this, as I don't intend to install FTX NZ in Prepar3D, but I do use and love their HD trees.
