Temporary download link before it goes mainstream: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fzlg5hi5qkvxr ... 8.zip?dl=0
Would appreciate feedback on anything that could be corrected before going fully public. :plane:

OK - here goes!!!!

Firstly ... FANTASTIC ... it's such a joy to have a "local" C-130 in P3Dv4!!!

There's a problem in your aircraft.cfg that may trip up other "testers" - with the naming of the model. Other little "edits" of mine are just me and my own personal "system". Changed lines are shown with "******":

Code: Select all
[fltsim.x]
title=Lockheed Martin C-130H - Royal New Zealand AF
sim=C130
model=C-130Classic ***************
panel=
sound=
texture=rnzaf
kb_checklists=
kb_reference=
atc_id=NZ-7003 *************
atc_airline=RNZAF
atc_flight_number=7003
ui_manufacturer="Lockheed Martin"
ui_type="C-130H"
ui_variation="Royal New Zealand AF"
ui_typerole="Multi-Engine TurboProp"
ui_createdby="Lockheed Martin"
description="Lockheed Martin C-130H featuring an analog interior. \nThe C-130H has updated T56-A-T5 turboprops, a redesigned outer wing, updated avionics, and other minor improvements." **************
flg="New Zealand"
countermeasure_loadout=Basic Countermeasures

=========================================
Suggested amendments:

model=C-130H
// I don't have a "C-130Classic" model. Was that one you maybe copied/renamed whilst working on the livery?

atc_id=NZ7003
// I'm not 100% sure, but I thought hyphens in the atc_id could case problems <?>

ui_createdby="Captain Sim"
// My convention for this line is that "manufacturer" is the company name in RL, whilst "created_by" is the add-on creator (CS in this case)

description="Lockheed Martin C-130H featuring an analog interior. \nThe C-130H has updated T56-A-T5 turboprops, a redesigned outer wing, updated avionics, and other minor improvements. \nRepaint by Alex James."
flg="RNZAF"

//You should credit yourself ;-) - also - it helps identify which livery is which if you have multiple/similar liveries installed.

There are two things I think are maybe not quite right (IMHO):

1) Colour: the model seems a little too blue - especially when in shade or in overcast.

Looking wonderfully/deceptively good in these first few shots (when against a nice blue sky):

Home base!

Getting a bit blue!

Seen against a more neutral asphalt grey:
Image

I've seen these C-130s a fair few times in RL and they never struck me as that blue. I'll check my old photo archive. Photos can look very different though ... depending on the lighting.

Is the grey in the props meant to be the same grey as the rest of the aircraft (not sure!!!)?
Image

... which leads to the 2nd point ...

2) Props: your BMP prop texture looks a bit odd - and it jiggles about when the engines are idling.
I remade the prop texture as a DDS for one of my own revisions a while back (all the pics above are using it). Would you like a copy of it?

If you have Photoshop, I could give you my original layered file - where I tried to match the stripes positioning as well as changing the alpha a little.

I made a couple of short "before & after" videos to show the difference - should I put them up in DropBox?

I hope you don't see these as "negative" comments - I'm really appreciative - only trying to help out!

Adam.

EDIT:
I Googled some images. It appears the props grey *is* different/lighter than the body colour:
Image

Looking at the pics, there are some that really are distinctly blue. Are some later liveries of the RNZAF Hercs much bluer?
2011 (still quite grey):

2013 (blue!!):

Hi Adamski,

Thanks for the feedback, its greatly appreciated :)
Doh! In my mad rush to get a copy out I completely forgot to adjust the aircraft.cfg - apologies on that.

1) Colour, its a real battle trying to get it correct. Lots of people say its FS 26118 but it just looks odd to me (as seen below, thought?). I came to the conclusion they have been repainted during the life extension program which is why some look grey and others quite blue.

2) Good spotting, ill look to get that corrected. - Do you want to PM me your .PSD texture?

When I revisited all the RNZAF C-130 liveries I found all sorts of variations. I live only 5km away from Whenuapai ... I feel like knocking on their door with my camera!

I must say I much prefer the colour in that last pic but, as you say, it may not be current any more!

Check your PM for a link to the prop texture!

If your a modeller...the prop colour is "flat aluminium" Grey, gray doesn't feature.

That makes sense (thanks!). Meaning they're just not painted ... and so catch whatever light is available. Good catch, Batman!

Adam.

EDIT: Alex ... I know CS seem to have forsaken alpha channels for some reason, but the prop detail (in texture 7, I believe) might benefit from a bit of extra shine/reflectivity via the alpha channel, going by what Marty has just said.

The finished props textures in use (Alex - check you PMs!)

This "aluminium" thing intrigued me, so I revisited dome of my old alpha/specular tutorials. This is the result:

I added a bit of blue/purple to the spec texture - and added a bit of gloss to the prop area in the alpha. I may need to remove it for the black areas (spinner and inner prop) though.

The blades have environment mapping enabled in the model, so they actually reflect what's outside.

Nice! I have been screwing around with the overall colour, have created a bit of a blend between the blue/grey which I think looks alright. (let me know otherwise)

Looks good from that angle :clap: . How does it look when it catches the light?

Have you checked your PM's (I sent a link with the finished prop textures)?
