I put this up at their forum too, thought I'd show you a glimpse of what those chaps have been up to.
DLC for Florida USA, there's so much stuff in there

Marty, if you're a DVD/standalone person like me, you just have to be patient. Charl is on Steam. Just today, I got the AFS2 update from the aerosoft.aerofly page, and the Florida scenery should be there soon as well.

Heh... yes but it's the OTHER Ferrari you want, the White one!

For once we Steamers are in the front of the queue, as Aerofly updates natively that way.
The likes of Aerosoft and ORBX make you wait until they have taken their pound of flesh first.

Here's the other view of the place.
For many years I hated nighttime FS shots as you could never see them properly.
Well, if it's lights you are after, here's a whole lotta lights:

I don't mind waiting...the IPACS devs wisely release things on Steam, before anywhere else, because they know Steam users will have a standard installation. That makes troubleshooting a lot easier.
I just wish they would indicate the download size - I don't have unlimited bandwidth - so that I can manage what bandwidth I have, to provide for the download.

Mike I was going to have a look for you, but I have no idea where they put AFS2!
I guess this all helps to defeat the script kiddies in their quest to steal the software, but then again, maybe they are more savvy than I am...

I have mentioned to IPACS that they need to ensure DLC** can go somewhere other than C:\ otherwise I run out of SSD space.
I skipped the last Aerosoft offering because of this.
All part of the sim growing up, it's an interesting journey.

**Don't you hate it when people talk in acronymic jargon??

I prefer the first two series so the black ‘faketona’ is what I associate with the series.

Now you mention it... that was a 'Vette in drag because Ferrari wouldn't loan them the real deal!
I do agree the first series (like many a TV show milked for too many episodes) was the best.
And the Testarossa that Ferrari eventually loaned them surely must be the low point in their history of carmaking. :ph43r:

The second series was pretty good too but you're right, the first was the best. I think that they hit their stride when Edward James Olmos came on board. That first episode with him, 'One Eyed Jack' I think it was surely one of the best they ever did. It's funny who turns up. Lot's of people who hadn't made it yet. I don't know a lot about Ferraris (I'm a Jag guy) but that Testarossa was a pretty iconic car even without Vice. It was an 80s Italian sports car... of course it was terrible.

Charl, restricting the initial releases to Steam users eliminates a lot of potential problems caused by users' non-standard installations. I don't mind waiting, 'cos I'll get a fully sorted version. :)

There was a thread on the IPACS forum about changing the default file storage location - I'm trying to find it again.

This is the one. It's a long tale, but they get there in the end.

I glazed over then, and again did so now :)
This time round, I am front-end-of-software only.
They must make it work for me, and not bother me with how they do it.
But thanks for the link, I have it bookmarked now for when I need to break the glass in dire emergency.

Only Slightly Off Topic: I just had an amazing email from someone who wants to install some FS2004 AI in FSX and can't find the (FS2002) file for the mobile control tower! Phew...

Charl, that particular thread is a nightmare, people keep giving the right advice, and others keep ignoring it... I don't think it helped that initially this didn't work because of an update bug, but I understand it works now.
Best solution if you want to take some time is to install Steam on a big HD, and shift your Documents system to the HD as well. Fiddly to do on anything but a new system, but would overcome a lot of issues with small SSD size.

EDIT: forgot why I wanted to comment on this thread in the first place.. Both the screenshots here demonstrate why I love FS2 and find X-plane mediocre. Both attempt to give a bit of realistic atmosphere, but only FS2 looks natural to me. Although people rave about the visuals in X-plane, I've never managed to get anything but muddy skies and scenery. Prepar3d struggles with this, but I have enough tools in my kit to get the best out of it. I'd love to have the same toolkit for X-plane, but I'm just not fired up enough about it to bother.

XP has a look. For me, it's fine low down where I usually am but the higher you get, the weirder things can look. There are some addons to help with this but yeah I get where you're coming from.

It certainly is, Rob. Nothing worse than people who ask for help because they don't know, then start arguing the toss about the correct help info they receive  I would have been cracking more than a few heads, had I been involved :arrr:

Marty, I downloaded it today from Aerosoft. 3.2GB, and it was pretty slow, 30-odd mins. Cost a tad under AUD 42, probly about NZD 46. I think it's worth that..

Not for Steam people.
