Squirrel for PNG

Postby chopper_nut » Mon Aug 06, 2018 11:00 pm

So I'm back into flightsimming and because I have internet regularly again, I'm back into FSE. If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend looking at it. It gives purpose to your simming and I try to do as much of my simming as possible within that environment. I bought a Squirrel near the Whitsundays in Australia. Australia is kind of boring to fly around and there aren't enough small strips in NZ so I thought that I'd go to PNG for a change. So I'm ferry flying it up QLD. Got as far as Weipa today. Whole lot of nothing up there.... Scenery is default XP11 with the airports slightly enhanced.

I added some things in Cairns to make the helicopter 'PNG ready' such as the different mirrors, the exhaust protection, sand filter and some extra stuff inside. Dreamfoil AS350 with the Swiss Creations expansion pack.

So I played around with some effects mods for XP today. Not sure about the results yet. I think it looks better but I still haven't got it looking quite the way I want it yet. Continuing the flight from Weipa north to the Torres Strait.

You might need to add a ferry tank and liferaft to your shopping list before heading out Nick

Why is everyone telling me to get back to work??? I'm trying to get work in NZ again but I'll probably end up back in the Pacific.

Graphics controller or flight control?

Graphics control is a bit of a mixed bag but the new thing that I've put in is ReShade. It's a bit of a pain to set up and it's only in Beta but it works really well.

Flight control is just a poxy one from EB in Christchurch. I don't even know what it's called as it's not on the product anywhere. The only reason that I bought it is because the handle detaches making it a 'travel' joystick and you can take the centering spring out which I've done. Can't take the yaw spring out though which is hugely annoying.

Floats, yes. Ferry tank, I don't think so. It isn't actually that far across that bit of water surprisingly...

Excuse my ignorance but what is FSE? (you said 'it gives you purpose')
I love helis too; I always thought one of these days I would get some decent heli controls. Maybe I will.
My current rig is fixed wing based with TrackIR and looks like the attached (not seen is the Cessna trim wheel, right thigh).

FSE is Flight Sim Economy. If you remember Air Hauler, it's kind of like that except that it's entirely online. Can rent aircraft off other players or buy your own aircraft to do transport jobs anywhere in the world with a large variety of aircraft. I love it.
FSE

The best helicopter controls out there to my knowledge is the Pro Flight Trainer. Not cheap but what hardware is. I don't use this myself as I don't really have anywhere to set it up but all of the guys swear by it.

That is nice ... not sure what my Wife might say if I made a play for that though... :o

Horn Island, floats fitted, off to Daru PNG next. About 105nm with very few options if everything goes quiet.

Crossed the bit of water today. About 100nm to Daru so not a terribly long flight. It's a bit of a hike up to Hagan so I'll do it in stages.
