The title here is an actual news headline today, and for a minute it made me panic -- I'd been up over Banks Peninsula practicing my sonic booms in the F18....

I wonder what the real boom was - perhaps a bolide? My family heard one while on Mt Taranaki one day and it was a kind of dulled report, almost like a truck backfire.
