Whangarei-Tauranga, Dornier Do 27

Postby hasegawa » Thu Apr 16, 2026 11:00 pm

This is my first post in a long time. I'm happy to be back.

Whenever I get up early in Potsdam, it's late afternoon in New Zealand. I enjoy flying in real time with "real weather." This results in images that are significantly different from what you get with "canned weather." Today's flight from Whangarei to Tauranga wasn't much of an adventure, but the aircraft, the Dornier Do 27, hasn't been available in a flight simulator for as long as I can remember. I'm very pleased that it's now available.

Gut indeed... wonderful shots. Amazing visibility from that cockpit.
Lovely old bird .

Ganz gut, indeed.
I tend to favour the Wilga for the short STOL hops, but the Dornier is bigger, faster, heavier.
Doesn't really matter in the sim I guess.
What chance someone builds a Broussard?
Restauravia has, of course

That's right, the Wilga is more closely “related” to the Fieseler Storch, and I appreciate it because it was a common sight in the GDR during my youth. There are probably still a few examples from that era in Germany. There’s a solid model of the Wilga available for MSFS 2020. As for this model of the Do 27 made by a Spaniard and available on Simmarket, it’s really a nice aircraft, and above all, it’s the first replica for MSFS that I’ve ever seen.

Nice pics.

I had a payware Do27 in FSX many years ago...but I can't remember who made it. Iirc it had a parachute drop option.

Could it be that the version in FSX was freeware? I don't recall a Do 27 in FSX... we certainly would have tested it in FS-Magazin. It was always a sought-after aircraft.
