Chasing the Trains in my little Taylorcraft

Postby Charl » Mon Oct 12, 2026 8:03 pm

I've always wanted trains in MSFS 2020.
In previous years I would hone helo skills at Innsbruck, which had an animated train running around the airport.

Now, we have some MSFS20 French rolling stock.
From the readme:
Trains-Bretagne is a global scenery that breathes new life into the region's rail transport routes in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
This project connects and unifies all major and minor lines to offer continuous immersion, whether you are flying high at cruise altitude or low down along the tracks.

Slow and/or low down happens to be what the little Taylorcraft can do... just waiting to pounce!

Harassing the TGV is - just - within the capabilities of the aircraft.

It's a lot of fun, and a great way to see Northern France.

Niiiiiiceee !!!! That's actually pretty decent .. not much articulation going on round them bends tho for the poor punters :D

I've also got a bit of a train fan history too, I suspect a bunch of us have

That's a good thing that can only get better...wee bro, wife and our bro-in-law are aboard a TGV for Nimes even now as we speak, ETA Barcelona tomorrow. I hope the floods have gone down.

Great stuff. I wouldn't have thought that the Taylorcraft could keep up with the TGV.

Haha yes but once you focus on the fact that this is a FLIGHT Simulator, you can forgive so much

beats flying, often beats the weather too

Yes! I could hear you with the other half of brain. Thanks Marty

CP, the modelling is actually quite good: I read that the incoming TGV from Paris goes 320km/h, but from Rennes to Brest (which is where I was chasing) is an upgraded conventional line (ligne classique) restricted to around 200km/h.
Close inspection of the Taylorcraft speedo shows 125MPH which is about right!

There are freight trains and others, which go much more sedately.
Really a work of love, this one, and reminds me so much of those enormous scale model train layouts that take man-years to build.
