Yeeah !! Brilliant weather in Palmy, superstock racing will be done and dusted by 11 tonight and we'll be on the road to Tauranga about midnight. A couple of hours sleep on my friends couch - maybe - and I'll see you guys tomorrow. I'll be the dusty muddy one, vibrating with caffeine and cursing because I brought the p&s instead of the big nikon LOLCheersGary(Ps posting this from the browser on my phone, hope it's readable smile.gif

Me and a few mates had organised a flight down in AFS' Duchess, but due to our PIC having a change of plans at the last minute, me and my gf have decieded to drive down tomorrow morning. 3 hours there and 3 hours back should be worth it just to see the Spitty flying! drool.gif

was quite a good day even watching from home laugh.gif just watching some aircraft coming in to tauranga over my house smile.gif that spitfire was damn loud ( i assume it was a spit, sure as hell looked like it. specially with the target on each wing tongue.gif ) was outside burning a few things outside so was unable to catch it with a camera but it was pretty low.

Well done you guys on an excellent presence there this weekend, despite being slightly off the beaten track there seemed to be a healthy flow of people through the tent. It took me awhile to find yaz and by then my entourage (the Missus, me mum and my baby) were all gettin a little over standing in the sun, I couldnt see the problem personally, what with so many great machines in the air.

Anyway, I managed to introduce myself to Gavin (Kahu) and Robin, and Mike was in the tent at the time but had his hands full with a group of interested punters.

Hilight for me was finally seeing a Spitfire flying, after seeing a bunch on the ground before, a pic following, and loads more on flickr if you wanna take a squiz

I never made it, sad to say. We drove up from Palmy overnight as planned and got into Tauranga about 6am. I couldn't do anything until the gates (and ticket sales places) opened at 0730, and the gps was telling me if I wanted I could keep driving and be home in bed an hour before the flying displays started ...

Horrible choice to have to ma- ZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzzzZZZzzzzz

We left Auckland at about 8am- stopped in Katikati on the way down and made it into the show at about 11.30 as the Thunder Mustang was performing its display. Headed right down to the far eastern end of the crowdline and found a nice spot of shade to watch the display, and met up with Alex (Snapster) who I'm sure will post some of the awesome shots he captured on his massive lens camera!

Had a stroll around the tents but couldn't seem to find the NZFF one, sorry we didn't come in and say hi, the photos of the set up looked magnificent. Good on ya everyone for sorting this out and getting our name out there clapping.gif

My day was very enjoyable all in all- Seeing and hearing that Spitfire in the air was definitely a highlight, but also the general airshow atmosphere, then relaxing at Papamoa beach afterwards left me feeling very content all in all. Cheers!

I was there from early in the morning - left after the Corsair display since we wanted to beat the exit rush to get back to Auckland. I'll be processing all my photos during the week and will try and get some of the highlights up here before too long. smile.gif

First things first - a *HUGE* thank you to all concerned with the stall. It looked *very* professional and I hope it put NZFF a bit more on the map, so to speak.

I also had difficulty finding it at first (I'd lost that pic that had the show scenery + big arrow on it). If I hadn't have once been a keen volleyballer, I'd have missed it laugh.gif

Great to meet you all - though I'm sorry that I never made it back. My friend Rob had never yet seen a flying Spit (he's successfully jinxed all the previous Spit shows), so we were paranoid about missing it. By the time we did make it back to the stand, it was all over/cleaned out.

I wish I'd been able to stay and chat longer - so good to put faces to names. Trouble is, I was split between the social side and wanting to actually watch those luvverly warbirds. Maybe next time I'll come for both days.

On the whole, I thought it was an excellent show - ruined only by the idiotic commentator - that couldn't tell the difference between a loop and a barrel-roll, completely missed the para drops, then insisted in talking high pitched gibberish all over the Spit display, masking out the sound of that beautiful Merlin (that wasn't already drowned out by the equally insensitive ground fire noise).

Spitfires fly oh so rarely in the NZ skies so we really want to savour those moments. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

After the Spit, my next favourite (curiously) was the C152 aerobatic display (the ubiquitous Hooker?). Can't put my finger on it - just looked awesome. Yoshi's Red Bull display was out of this world - as was Doug Brooker's Yak52. The P40 pair put in a *lot* of work - quite happy to fly all day - repelling attackers etc. - as did the Harvards. No NZ show would be complete without those awesome old planes (and pilots). My regular favourite, the DC-3, also looked majestic every time it did a trip. Wow! Not to mention the fantastic Corsair. All air show regulars, but always a treat!

Inevitably, the CT4's left a huge hole in the day. Very sad. I'm surprised the RNZAF couldn't have re-routed a Herc or P-3 exercise for Sunday. Even a simple flypast would've "flown the flag" for the Air Force on Waitangi weekend. Hmmm. I'm such a Herc fanboi that I'd have loved it. I suppose they did put on a good chopper display though winkyy.gif

A great day - well organised and well worth the drive down from Auckland. Good job we brought plenty of sun-block!!

Quick note and thanks to Rob for the scenery updates New_Zealand_etc.gif . NZTG looks incredible - have yet to check out the differences ion the others.

I only got to say hello to Ian on the plane trip up but that was it, airshows are always a busy time but good fun, really enjoyed the show.

Pulling up for the bomb burst.
