Sad to say, but the solution may be a new computer/motherboard/processor. I struggled on for too long trying to push a computer that was just not up to the job of running FSX, but in the end, the real solution was a complete new computer. I realise now that I spent FAR too much time adjusting/readjusting/adjusting again trying to get FSX to run smoothly, but the bottom line was that the computer was just not up to it. When you do upgrade, you will just not believe the difference that a processor that runs at 4.2 or 4.5 GHz will make (coupled with a decent graphics card). The good news is that the prices are falling all the time, so you may find something like the i7 2500K processor (which I am very happy with) for a good price. It may seem hard now to have to upgrade and spend a lot of money for a new computer set up, but the end result is that you will enjoy FSX (and other demanding programs like Photoshop) a LOT more on newer computer. You will spend lot less time adjusting, and a lot more time flying.
Smooth landings.
