DC-3 - Warbirds/N.A.C

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Postby JonARNZ » Sat Mar 31, 2007 9:22 pm

Great and exciting news, some of you may be aware of the desire to repaint the default DC-3 for both Warbirds and N.A.C, but with some textures, most notably the tail, being flipped, the end result was cr@p.

A month or so ago I decided to either deal with this problem properly, or not bother with the skins. I am delighted to announce we have dealt with the problem properly.

When I say 'we' I am referring to James Eden who has remapped the default FSX DC-3 with new textures for the fuselage and tail assembly. In short this means tail textures, ye shall flip no more.

First flight in its base all-metal finish took place this evening, she's due into the paintshop tomorrow. She will be ready for the Airshow at the end of the month.

FS9 pilots, James is still working through the technical challenges of making this model backward compatible, we are hopeful an FS9 version will be available in the not to distant future.

'All hail James'

This is some of the bigger news the NZFF has seen.
Guys if you get this right, there's a couple of Hall of Fame spots beckoning.

yup, its additional textures, 1 for the left and 1for the right. It also means greater detail as well since the fuselage is cut in two

(anyone guess the movie?)

Good luck with the skin, should be no problem now with the model in place.

Thanks guys :) I'm hoping that there will be a few more goodies available for the final release.

FS9 is creating a bit of a challenge. It looks like it could be a big job, so here's hoping I can actually get this done for you guys. B)

You will need the new model file due to it being modified, but its a pretty small file due to the way FSX handles VC's and Exterior models now (couple of megabytes), and the 2 new textures that I've entrusted Jon with :D

Cheers,
James

Slip these in here, see how many people spot them :ph43r: These screenies show the first viewing of textures, so some work still to be done to get everything sitting perfectly.

Things have progressed well, a few issues with the text not sitting quite right on one side, but all in all I am very happy with progress to date.

Well the paintshop boys have pretty much done there thing for the warbirds scheme. Still a few minor adjustments to make to some of the window frames, the P&W logo and perhaps the blue might evolve into a slightly different shade, but in general shes nearly done. Done enough to risk a few close ups at least.

hey matey , did u want me to send AirForce Dak paint plans ? for maybe another version off the same or another earlier dated paint ? I was in Archives Wigram friday speakin to our friend Barf , our airforce paint helper, he was 'spitting tacks' so to speak at the errors on the dak paint , he was also consultent on the Harvard Historic flight .. again another incorrect piece off art.
