I'm not entirely sure I like VLC's "blobby" texture boundaries here. I even prefer the default FSX in that respect.
No need to go to Google -- here's photo scenery showing the actual hill. The photo only extends a little way, the rest in this shot is NZSI.
Adam's VLC shot is by far the closest to reality, the only thing which prevents it from being perfect is the mix'n match default textures. It really needs its own set of custom textures, which would also smooth the transition between vectors.
Oops, not as effective a post since the thread has gone to a new page, so I'll repeat Adam shots here:Last edited by toprob on Thu Dec 22, 2011 10:40 am, edited 1 time in total.

Maybe so but what about if they were to visit NZSI in real life they may be very disappointed not being able to find all that lush green and all those trees unless someone gets real busy irrigating and planting trees before the visitors arrive.

The 'Visitors' have already arrived .... they called the series 'V'

Thanks, RDI only bought the C185F a couple of days ago - I'd have thought it'd be the most recent <?>. Or do you mean the update to the repaint?

I'm not saying they cut corners, they just come at it with a different approach.
Vector Land-Class attempts to "re-define New Zealand in FSX," to make it as accurate as possible with the available features of default fsx. This gives a product that is visually stimulating, not because it was designed with that in mind, but because it is recognizable to those of us who live in NZ, and is accurate to the photo's, video's and memories of those who don't.
I hope this makes sense, and I'm not sounding any more like a blabbering idiot than usual.
Makes perfect sense to me .. and I agree 100%.
More food for thought ... just to show how appalling the default FSX in many parts of NZ actually is ...

Orbx have acknowledged that there are some bugs to be fixed, such as the missing towns, but their representation of the South Island is designed with a different set of goals than VLC. Let's face it, how many FTX customers are actually going to visit Murchison in their lifetime? Orbx's SI is designed to be an ideal wilderness for people who have never seen one, and it certainly is nice to look at.
I think that Rob has hit the nail on the head, NZSI is not the one true NZ which everyone has been hoping for. I am very disappointed with it.
smooth landings.
