REX ESSENTIAL **OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT**

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Postby Kelvinr » Tue May 29, 2012 7:02 pm

Hi all,

"This notice has been authorized by Tim Fuchs himself to notify you guys of the recent access issues to the REX forum."

As you may have noticed in the past 24 hours some latency issues and/or inability to access the REX forums. This has been due to an explicit DDoS attack on the servers. This is a calculated attack and Jae is working tirelessly on the servers to avoid further attacks. Please be patient during this time and will provide further updates in due course.

Cheers,

Kelvin (REX Essential Beta Team Member)

Hope that doesnt mean its been attacked for means of stealing the new files? I'm lucky I purchaced through FlightSimStore which has the complete new version. Servers were initialy slow but sped up this afternoon. 4.25gig in approx 5 hours. I'm happy. Just got to uninstall then reinstall.

Not stealing anything, just sending tons of requests to the site to slow it down

2.3 million p/minute to be precise. It is direct and intentional.

Hey guys,

If able can you forward your Essential questions over at the REX Forum. I will try to help where possible.

@ KCGB Please answer the following:
Do you have wind smoothing on?
Are you using Vatsim checked or unchecked.

Also what you can do is use the Metar search function in the Waysys by right clicking on the boarder and choosing search metar. Try to input the closest aerodrome from your position and see what comes up.

@dart15 that is completely strange as none of the testers had reported this issue during testing. I would address this in the Support Forum if able.

I have REX Overdrive ... wonder when that version will be out?

Any feedback on what ESSENTIAL actually *looks like*? Compared to old REX?

EDIT: update on DDoS attack. Looks like the forum has remained up and stable. The guys are monitoring it anyway.

I was going to suggest turning on Vatsim weather but on checking i found that the Rex servers are not using all of the available Vatsim weather in NZ. They seem to be using WP,AA, OH,WN,CH and interpolating the rest much the same as Active Sky does. If you check the VATNZ site you will see there are many more stations available in NZ on Vatsim.

Rex2 at least used all the NZ stations when Vatsim weather is selected. I'll pop a message on the REX forum and see what the story is.

Other than this i absolutely love REX E.

One of the most important features , real world weather , the Canterbury/Eastern South Island has these extremes - the N/W and South Is West Coast , had a little chat about weather stations with Kelvin , guess it the best they can do current with the FSX model - sure this being such a popular region will be looked at . smile.gif

You will notice in the config that you can move the slider to choose more stations/less accurate or less stations/more accurate this was a trade off but is in the config so the end user can decide their own settings. Have you played around with this slider?

Yeah sure have. In Rex2 the 14 stations reported by VATNZ all worked so i am sure that it is possible to get them working in REX E. It'll just take some tweaking.

This is the very reason i went away from Active Sky, because when flying online the weather was interpolated from as far away as NZSP ( which is ridiculous). Rex E seems to interpolate much better but it would be best if it used the full Vatsim data.

Be interesting to see this glued together , only 3 points was the standard , so bring it on cool.gif

I have installed and configured but no t run FSX yet and I can say it is a much smoother experience configuring everything. All the settings auto save as you go through them and there are a lot more weather related options that will obviously impact on the way REX renders the weather in FSX. I am looking forward to my next FSX session.
