I was quite disappointed with the Metro. The autopilot is in a really bad place in the VC and EADI is horrific to use. Give me a normal HSI any day. Also the visibility on approach is not that great but that is probably indicative of the real thing. Any slight crosswind or trying to turn on to final is difficult because of the pillars. Using the view - eye point Left does help
Gathering dust in the hangar unfortunately....still for $20 have a go and check t out for yourself.

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

At $20 it's a bargain, the Metro is great, lovely modelling, texturing and the latest sound pack is decent.
As Steve says one of the main gripes is the VC window perspective but that's no problem if you have TrackIR or any of the view changing tools. Dont let him put you off tongue.gif

I can only comment from a visual point of veiw , for me , the VC is awkward and chunky , the externals seem to lack .... something.
Not much to go on deeknow Im sorry .... i just didnt like it , however , thats not a reason not to grab it at this price . And what do i know anyway.... you may love it.
I have a very limited focus when it comes to software for F/S ..... and Ive wasted so much money "focusing" .... that focus dry.gif

Nah that's good feedback I reckon Marty. Peeps need to know what others think of these things, especially for pay-ware obviously. In this case I think it's one of those sorts of aircraft that you either love or you dont, and if you do you'll probably put up with a few peculiarities or deficiencies. I'm personally a happy camper, but everyone's different right

I was so interested in this one until I saw the mapping quality of its external textures! The VC looks great. But the outside......STRUTH!!! So should I part with $20 and try to put up with those awful external textures....?!

I had high expectations and they just weren't met. Maybe it was over hyped, maybe not. Things like almost needing TO power once full flap goes out on final approach just puts me off. But as I said for $20 bucks you should give it a go and make your own mind up. At the price of a couple of 'happy meals' why not?
Deeknow how do you put up with that dreadful EHSI?

Do you have the update they released for it Steve? I dont have any issue with power levels in landing config???
Re the HSI, yeah she's pretty tiny and with the reduced size of the rose area below the data items and labels above it you do have to squint to see whats going on. Luckily theres a hot key and the gauge is clickable so you can toggle it to be as big as you want when you really need to see whats going on. It's fine for me though if all I want to do is glance to see how my VOR or ILS intercept is going? you can make that much out without too much bother. What irks me more is having to be precise about tweaking HSI modes and HDG or CRS selectors on the side panel, it's a shame there isnt a popup for that as a sort of 2D panel, that would make things much easier to manager, especially with TrackIR bouncing me head around

Don't spose you guys who are wondering about whether to spend $20 on this are Scottish are you???? winkyy.gif

Get over grumpy uncle Cowpatz and just buy it .. thumbup1.gif

Other than experimenting with the exterior lights so they're not so humongous, I'm really enjoying this aircraft! There's a variety of liveries both included and via third parties. The aircraft is both challenging yet also easy to fly at the same time, and reacts to control inputs appropriately. Took a bit of reading to figure out certain systems as well as how to properly manage the engines, but I haven't burnt one yet!

Must check for the update.
Yeah the EHSI pop up works fine but to have the localiser and glideslope information displayed as it would be in a C172 is horrid.
Maybe if the update sorts the power issue then I will reassess my grumpy position smile.gif

Not being able to see the runway in a crosswind because somebody put a pillar in the way? Welcome to my world!
It's not uncommon to have to slide over and look through the centre windscreen during a crosswind approach. The centre panel is unheated so can make for an interesting approach if you picked up a bit of ice and it's -4 in Dunedin smile.gif

As far as power goes it depends on whether you are in a Metro 3 or 23. The Metro 3 slows down a lot easier.
Standard practice is to close the power levers to just above flight idle, at 215kts take 1/4 flap then speeds high. This will slow you to 180kts for 1/2 flap then 175 kts gear down. Reset about 30-35% torque and you slow to towards 140kts which you maintain to 500ft. At 500ft it's full flap and 25% torque for a Metro 23 and 30% for a Metro 3.

Autopilot mode selector on ZKPOB is towards the bottom of the centre pedestal. ZKNSS's autopilot mode selector is in the centre on the main instrument panel and mode selectors for the EHSI are low down on the far side of each pilots instrument panel.

Awesome info, thanks for sharing. I love this machine (as I'm sure everyone can tell by now), have been flying freeware models over the years so was ecstatic when Razbam announced it.

Just wanted to say that it looks like the sale is on until the 15th, and I think there are more New Zealand liveries for this aircraft than I've seen for any others!
Between the Life Flight livery it comes with, the three NZ-specific ARNZX liveries, and a couple on flightsim.com representing Air Nelson and Chathams, we're definately not hurting for NZ operators depicted on this Metroliner!
