Hitting the speed brakes while still 30ft above the runway.....

What is it about their landing techniques that irked you so? That's a genuine question, BTW, not a dig or "flame-war" starter biggrin.gif

Oh. Yes, that would make for a "less than ideal" landing. Did you have that happen more than once? There must have been a number of things that happened for you to dislike them so much - yes? huh.gif

They may not have had any serious crashes but their fleet has major issues. Just lately engine explosion, prior to that on the same model a fuselage ripping open. Now they Q400's. Not only that but their A330's are still experiencing sudden falls in flight. Also they are going through large amounts of tyres each week on their new A380's. It's coming for that company, and their pilots also need to address their landing techniques (And thats speaking from experience on Qantas). I'll never fly with them again

You say "their fleet has major issues" - but compared to what? You can't make statements like that without some form of logical comparison, which you don't have. The only reason we hear about these is because the media Radar is focussing on Qantas. But how does their incident rate stack up versus, hours flown, passenger miles, or other airlines? Thats what really counts. This is not and will not be the only engine failure that occurs on an airliner this year, but we won't hear about any others, unless its ANZ or Qantas or another airline an it happens in NZ airspace. I'd have no problems flying Qantas anyday.

Some nice closeup spy-pics here (no doubt a quick thinking SFO ground crew member laugh.gif) of the damage to the Qantas RB211 ...

Comforting to know really that they can survive damage like this without taking out the rest of the wing/aircraft
