That is a very sad site watching the B-52 crash like that ... hear the wind .. wonder if it was simply to much for it !

That Hind tho runs better than a FS model .... COOL! biggrin.gif

Yes a tragedy that B52 crash. I can recall seeing a video of the munted turbines in a shopping trundler. There was nothing else apart from a 10m dia burnt patch of ground.
It was a classic case of flying with an overcast sky. The aircraft becomes a silhouette and it is difficult to determine if the aircraft is in a right or left turn. He thought it was turning left so commanded a right turn with catastrophic consequences. I have had a few trouser soiling episodes myself due to the same illusion.

That Hind is pure magic... flies beautifully, and he flew it beautifully.
I know these things, as I survey the heap of scrap RC helo bits on my workbench...

Seriously this guy must be loaded, single and childless and have the patience of a saint:)

... and have 12 little Helpers in Santa's Workshop.
There is not enough time on one lifetime to make something like that.
Hope it cost less than the real thing.
Can you imagine crashing it???
You'd be banished to Siberia. Oh wait, he comes from Siberia, that explains it.

Going through other vid's on this B52 - looking at the cost involved i'm very surprised it did not have a little return camera on board , would have saved a lot of heart ache !

Some months back now I had some very interesting videos embedded on the BMAC website on the construction of the R/C models used in the making of the Aviator movie. Can't find them now but here is one that gives you some insight to what is involved. Wish I could find the original 3 that I had

There are lots of people building model aircraft for a job around the world even here in NZ.

Here are a couple for the Sproose Goose

This one has been around for a while so most of you may have seen it.

Ali Machinchy who owns and is piloting this model is a professional R/C aircraft pilot. He owns a chain of hobby shops in the UK called Als hobbies. He is also known as Mr Jet. Ali travels the world demonstrating aircraft for model manufacturers and would have to be one of the most talented pilots I have seen.
Ali commissioned Phil Clark From Fighter Aces in the UK to build this 30% Skyraider

Here is Phils build thread on RCScalebuilers website RCScale Builders

This video shows that even the best can get it wrong on rare occasions

It was such a nice day here in AKL yesterday that I decided to take my "well over due for retirement' model out for a fly. It has an inverted engine setup that can at times be troublesome. I had not flown it for a while and I had to put up with the engine hiccuping and stopping when trying to open the throttle after a prolonged idle as in when on approach. Not a good combo and one that lead to a few deadstick landings well down field after a failed go around or touch and go. During the course of adjusting the low end mixture (which involved lots of starting, stopping and adjusting) I managed to pass a finger thru the prop. It's only a .46 engine but it still managed to slice my finger tip. The worse part is the blood ....it goes everywhere...model, tools and transmitter. Not having any bandaids I had to resort to folding and wrapping a paper towel around my finger and securing with a plastic tie. After that field repair I managed to continue. It all amused my partner no end. Actually it was good having her there (besides her doubled over in laughter at my misadventure) as she offered to go and get the model after the engine quit....better than duck shooting with a retriever. Every modeller should have one. All in all a semi successful day.

Bummer .. loosing all that hydraulic fluid .. what you have to do is rip the shirt of ya back (like in the movies) cut it into ribbons - make a tourniquet , wrap around your neck for the primary and one - twist till tight - for the secondary - the wrist to make sure and to complete any major prob , next around the cut finger .......... SEE you can tell i did a First Aid course biggrin.gif

I'm a bit blown away by some of the pictures, videos, information and links on this thread... wow!

I haven't been able to fly the planes much and still haven't ventured into the air at the park in Marty's helicopter. Summer is on its way and balmy cloudless evenings await so there is plenty of time.

In the meantime I have been taking the glider offshore a bit. This video was on a windy overcast day so I didn't venture too far away. Hope you like smile.gif

Very nice quality... where'd you source the camera?
I thought you got a bit adventurous, actually.

The cop stopped right by me and got out, watched the plane and asked me a few questions about it, no offences disclosed!

The camera is a cheapie Go Pro clone bought from JB HiFi for $149. It comes with a waterproof case and some mounting brackets. It will record in 1080 or 720 - the only issue I have with it is that the outer edges of the image is blurry. For the money though it works well and is light enough for the plane. Here are some pics.
