Thanks Ian, i was just telling Mike that i did about 5 approaches in that C-5 ......even with almost 0 fuel and no payload it barely stopped . Im not sure how accurate the flight model is.

I sometimes have a guy stay here , who flew "Fred" (C-5) out of Dover, he was saying that they can fly an approach as low as 100kts, and up to about 175, and roll out in about 4,000ft...payload dependent.

36R at hamilton is i believe 7200 or so? , i cant understand why i couldn't get in 'nicely'......oh well....practice practice, Im sure you all can nail it. Getting out may be interesting, it's missing a required 1000 plus feet.

Ian that dude is back here at the end of the month, I'll bring him over....he will be impressed and may be able to add something to the archive

Reading about a Galaxy mission this morning , the C5A was power by 4X 41,000 lb thrust and required 2540 meters takeoff , was to check CHCH airport history , that stage the runway was a bit shorter than what it is today at 3250 meters , also did not mention the weights , but i would say that was the 105 tonne payload .

It interesting , we see 747 well not so much anymore in CHCH but you see a freighter and appear to overshadow or seem bigger , the Russian counterpart An124 not much bigger , 1988 from runway level pulls up and dose a wing over , 150 thousand people all wooooo,d and said F...ar ... out ! .

From all accounts the C-5 is very maneuverable for such a big bird......interesting talking to a guy who flew them, when they need a top up...they push a kind of bow wave ahead, that can cause the KC's a few problems.....what a monster...just love it.

The bigger they are the easier they are to fly , the early C5 were a little lessor due to the power rating and TF39s , the M model is a whole different beast bringing it more in line with example the Russian 124 in respect to lifting and flight .

The 124 into Hamilton will be my next mission......can only try, and will make for some interesting screens

When they first put the 124 into Richmond back in 88 , he stop so quick only to find turnoffs along the runway would not suit and had to be invited to the end , only problem you have is the turnaround s or even getting to the ramp .
