Seems to be a touchy subject this one!
I've been with VANZ since October 2004 and whilst the sign up process isn't as fluid as it could be at the moment the VA is still active, an example is that pilots have flown over 7000 miles this month to date (4 days).
Owen knows what is involved in running a VA, and from my discussions with him it's not all beer and skittles. A large part of operations is checking and authorising logbooks, or developing an effective reporting system with all that entails. Schedule updates are quite a process and at times politics and hidden agendas on the forums can cause rifts.
I guess I am saying I wouldn't take on the job, and wish all the best to anyone comtemplating starting up a VA. Competition can be a healthy thing, if you can do better let's see it.
On another note there are always international VA's out there. VPA applicants must pass an exam to get in, so start swotting any potential Free Wings pilots
