Out of interest, how much was this card? If you fork out for another mobo make sure it is a 64bit so you can run FSX properly.Maybe I mean CPU,does the '64' to do with the mobo or CPU? just a reminder either way.

Do make sure you do what Toprob said about the CFG, FS sometimes needs to be told it has a new card. I take it you uninstalled the old one properly ie..deleted the old drivers etc...Remember you always get there in the end with computers it just takes a while sometimes, think positive and turn it in to a wonderfull learning experience! :)

I was charged $130 for it, second hand. NFC charged $28 to install it, then another $50 to 'fix' it (where they changed the antialaisng from 8x to 4x to very slighty improve framerates)

I honestly can't be bothered upgrading my PC anytime soon. I just want my graphics back the way they were.

he'd need a new CPU and a new motherboard and a new graphics card and new memory to get to 64-bit

if i were Trolly, I'd invest in a decent power supply. i've got a 485W Enermax power supply for my 6800GS- pricey but worth it.

Thanks,I've learnt alot following this thread, pity it seems almost par for the course that the reputable? dealers who take our money have the philosophy 'if you can't dazzle them with brilliance then baffle em' with bull***t. I always ask the guys name and ask him to personally tell me I'll get my money back if I have no joy.
I get some weird looks but they do seem to double check and ask there fellow shopkeepers if they've got it right.

just built my own system about 3 months ago and put in a 520w which after much reading was really the minimum I would look at putting in anything now.

I have had no problems since firing it up - although I dont know if I set up the sata hard drives correctly, but they work so I'm not fiddling

- best bet is to go to PB tech in Auckland if you are up here and ask to talk to someone about gaming machines - I shopped around on pricespy for about 6 months collecting parts on specials before putting it together and talked to countless sales guys and checked what games they played so I knew what sort of systems they were biased towards ie shooters , flightsims or rts etc.

best places I found were PB Tech , xp computers and a couple of places in mt roskill ( at work right now so can't look up the invoices)

cheers

I don't want a new comp, I just want my normal graphics back :(

My PC is currently in NFC getting re-fixed (I'm on the family comp atm), and after today I don't think I will shop their again, they seem to contradict themselves quite a bit and don't seem very clear on what they are doing... <_<

i don't want to sound like i'm harping on about power supplys, but just having a look at some online calculators makes for some sobering reading.
2.4GHz P4 could use 65-100W (depending on whether its prescott, wiliamette or northwood)
a graphics card could use 50W +
3 sticks of memory 30W
25W per hard disk
sound card 7W
25W per CD drive
plus USB devices 5W each
system fans 5W
plus 36W for motherboards and keyboards/mice...

you can easily clock up 300W from that alone, well in excess of your power supply

When I asked NFC whether my bad graphics where occurring because of my 300w power supply they just said no, and didn't give an explanation. My comp has been in the shop for two days now and I have not heard from them once.

One place to find info, there are alot of good tutorials around, you really are quite capable of putting your own card in,even if you don't know it yet, remember if you want something done properly you? (What I can't hear you !-that's right you do it yourself)I realise it's auckland but $28 for ten mins work, and that includes dowloading the latest drivers and installing. I say have a go,just earth yourself properly, double check and don't rush, you'll get the results you want and feel bloody good that that you did it and not some pretty boy with permed hair!

Phoned NFC today, they told me that after 4 days worth of trying to increase performance, they can't do anything. They even tried the card in other systems but had the same problem. Guess I was sold a dud card :(
