Some shots of me refuelling F-15C in lockon. Hours of fun and 1 collision(not shown as it happened to suddenly for me to take a picture, should really record tracks when I do this stuff) :plane:

mid-air refuelling isn't easy work. nice shots!
i watch a doco last night about the C-5 galaxy, and them refuelling it at night- that's really hair raising stuff. and they have to keep it steady for 15 minutes while it refuels!

Yeah I read a book about an F-16 pilot during the Gulf war who described one particular refuelling in bad weather at night where he was refuelling in turbulence. Same guy flew his F-16 from the US to United Arab Emirates it took him 17 hours and 10 refuellings.

YOu need to be pretty good at keeping your aircraft steady for in-flight refuelling

Yes you do particularly if the tanker turns at the end of the track. In Lockon the F-15C and A-10 refuelling is scripted so once I hook up it remains hooked up. The SU33 uses drogue refuelling and in FC its not scripted so the hose can sag and stretch so its alot harder to maintain postion and top up. In F4AF I use a technique to remain in position with the tanker by small throttle inputs to keep her in the green.(same technique as you do for formation flying)

(notice my DED is set on the Bingo page so I can monitor fuel flow)
And heres my wingman whos in the USAF topping up

Sort of I'm using lockon Flaming Cliffs which is an addon for lockon, some of the above screenshots were taken using lockon 1.02 which is the final version of lockons patch before FC. The shots of the SU33, F/A-18 and F-16 in the sunset are LO1.02. The first shots of the F-15 are lockon FC and the shots inside the F-16 are from Falcon 4 Allied Forces. The reason why I posted some screenies of F4AF refuelling as that is the best sim to refuel with online and you can see other players refuelling(and attempting to refuel :D ). An example of refuelling procedure in F4AF:
"Awacs request vector to tanker"
"shark 11 vector 020 80 miles TACAN chanel 126Yankee"
So I turn to 020 and set radar for 80miles Track While Scan mode, then I push 1 on the Ded and set 126Y Enter and switch Nav master mode to TACAN A/A TR
On the HSI I apply 020 and fine tune to find the tanker(normally by now its on the radar anyway)
From here we execute a LEAD turn to get on the tankers 6 and use the appropriate overtake speed to close with the tanker. (10kts for every 1000ft) Now we request refuel from the tanker and close up. The other 3 F-16s in the flight form up on the right wing of the tanker while I refuel. As I close up to 50ft nose cold(radar to standby) and Master Arm off, refuelling bay door open(sets the FBW to refuelling mode which makes throttle inputs smoother) and set DeD for bingo page. Once I'm in position I report ready to refuel and then get topped up and once finished report done refuelling and drop back then move to the left wing so the next aircraft can refuel.(AI or human) Lockons a bit different online as its not modelled correctly for online refuelling. The server can view the probe or drogue but clients cannot, some Squadrons have found workarounds such as getting a player to fly the tanker or get the server pilot to hook up first so other players can see the probe/drogue. Hopefully ED will make it work properly in their future sims as the debacle with UBI has prevented LO from going beyond 2 addons.
