A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby ZK-KAG » Mon Oct 09, 2006 8:18 pm

Why the hell not!

I thought Id better introduce myself a bit better with my fantastic sig... (oh and heli guys please dont get too offended, I like choppers too)

So my name is Keagan, im 17 and at Macleans College in Auckland.

Ive been simming since the days of Meigs Field on FS5!!! Wow that was sooo bad haha, I remember flying with the keyboard... Next I moved to FS2002Pro, and then got my hands on FS2004 and so it has spiralled from there haha. I have so many addons and stuff its not funny anymore, but hey it makes it so much better.

I got myself into AFCAD making and I have a very accurate NZAA for Project AI on Avsim (if i do say so myself :P ). I thought Id join this forum as its free and after reading many Airliners.net threads thought I could share my views on here.

I am a student pilot at Airline Flying Club at Ardmore, I have 20hrs in the mighty bug-smasher of a C152. I started flying in Jan this year at the Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School, which was an incredible experience. I plan to go back next year, and after that go to Massey Uni in Palmy for their Bachelor of Aviation course.

So yeah thats my flightsim past and real world future...

Cheers!

Well a big hello from Scotland!

Just signed up a couple of days ago, and have been frantically updating my scenery ever since, to cater for all the aircraft in the GA Project ;)

Anyway, I am a 48 year old retired Police Officer living in a small cottage just outside Perth, Scotland. Began simming waay back in the Commodore 64 days and became really involved about 10 years ago following my early retirement due to ill health.

Since then I have "worked" on various groups and was General Manager of Project AI for a while. I was also a Librarian at Avsim. Currently now working with MilitaryAI Works, where my main area is callsign creation.

Look forward to chatting with you.

Cheers

Hey KAG - good choice of aeroclub -

thats were I started back in about "79 - the club was actually located at NZAA monday to friday and was just behind where the current Skycare building is now next to rescue fire - we used to ferry the aircraft over to AR on a friday afternoon and back again on a monday morning.

I can remember taxying out on one of my first flights there and looking at the tower and saying to my instructer that that would be a cool job - Now I"ve been sitting in "this" tower for near on 10 years and I still look out at where the club used to be and think " boy I,d like to be out there!"

- I have some photos of the old club and aircraft around here if anyone wanted to see them.

Hi all

My name is Kim, I'm a 40 something year old male, who has been into flightsimming since it was on floppy disc's

I do Tech support for Electronic Arts (NZ), and most other Gaming distributors here in NZ.

Have a huge range of add-ons for FlightSim COF including all of the NZ payware stuff, prefer flying around NZ and will fly anything from Micro's, Choppers, GA and heavy iron.

Have been checking out these forums since they started and decided to get more active with the NZ scene.

GIS analyst for Environment Bay of Plenty

...and some more! Welcome Tim.
The NZFF could, one of these days, design, generate, produce, and market something...NZ perhaps?

Hi Everyone
Im Tim....24 y/o living and working in Whakatane/Ohope in the Bay of Plenty. Im a GIS analyst for Environment Bay of Plenty so work with and create a lot of the underlying visual data that is used by applications like Flight sims (and will be used more and more into the future)

The first 'flight sim' I guess would have been on the Vic20 (not really a true flight sim)...back in those days you could buy BOOKS of games which had a few pages of characters that you needed to copy EXACTLY and compile and then run....a little different to now!
The first true flightsim i really got into was Flight sim 4 and then 5 but there were other basic ones such as 'Chuck Yeagers Flight simulator'.....

Im currently studying/flying towards my PPL (fixed wing) and then intend to go on to a PPL (helicopters) and then CPL/ATPL in choppers.

My brother is an ex Skyhawk pilot then moved to the RAAF to instruct on the Pc-9 and Hawk. He has just got a job flying for Cathy Pacific but im visiting him in Aussie (leaving tomorrow infact) so hopefully we will be able to go for a blast in the a/c he is flying at the moment (a mixture of Learjets/Whirlwinds etc)

Errrr....yep that's me

Chuck Yeager's Air Combat = best game ever! :D in fact, it was the first game i ever bought. its copy protection was to ask you a question like "what is the ceiling altitude of a B-27?" before you could play it

Hi guys.

I'm David and I live in Auckland.
I've been involved in flight simulation for about six years now.
I mainly fly Warbirds, Vintage, and GA aircraft of all types, a bit of Military, especially Cold War classics and I have a big soft spot for thundering ole Propliners.

Great site guys and heart warming to see the Kiwi flight simming scene coming on so strongly.

Look foward to chatting to you all.

Cheers,

David.

Hi James

I use MSFS 99 per cent of the time.
I occasionally fire up IL2 "Forgotten Battles" if I feel like a bit of combat intertainment but it is the immersiveness of MSFS that I really enjoy.
With the stunning scenery and aircraft models that are available and especailly the advances in flight dynamics in recent years, you can read about and study a particular aircraft or historical situation and then load up flight sim explore it for yourself.
Like a window into history in a way.

Great fun too!!!
Flying a few modified fighters arount the pylons at Reno where the National Championship Air Races are held (Microsoft kindly put the pylons and the basic layout for Stead airport in by default) was a whole lot of fun and sure gives you an appreciation for the flying skills, not to mention eyesight (trying to spot the damn pylons when you're in a near vertical bank most of the way around the course at close to 500 miles per hour is a challange in itself) of the guys who do it for real.

Just got Robin Corns magnificent Wanaka scenery so am having a ball exploring that beautiful area of NZ at the moment.

It's an endless adventure.

Cheers,

David.

Hi all

My name is Trevor and I live in Brisbane. I was first introduce to Flight Sim many many years ago when it came out for the Apple Mac. I didn't really get into it then and it was only last year that I got back into it when my brother lent me a copy of FS9. I loved it so much I went out and bought it! I have since added numerous aircraft and scenery - my favourites being the Flight1 ATR72-500 and the PMDG 737.

I used to live in Wellington and went to school and uni there. I love flying FS9 in NZ and my favourite route is NZWN - NZNS (Iused to fly a lot to Nelson as I have a lot of relatives there). I purchased Red Baron Mesh & Real NZ Wellington to add realisim to my simming and want to congratulate the scenery developers for a fantastic job. I've also installed many NZ freeware scenery (Including NZNS) and want to thank you guys for amazing contributions.

To further add realisim, I joined a virtual airline called Tasman Airways and all the guys there are really helpful, friendly & approachable and loads of fun - pretty much like everyone at this fourm.

Speaking of this forum, I started visitng here looking for help with scenery problems mostly caused by my own ignorance. I've since explored NZFF more and found it a vaulable resource tool and it is great to hear from like-minded individuals with a passion for flying/simming.

I guess that as well as introducing myself, I wanted to say this is a fantastic site and looking forward to reading your posts.

Kind regards

Trevor

Well, here goes nothing....

My name is Jason and I was born in Rose Park, South Australia. I moved to Wisconsin in the US in 1979 with my family (I was 8). I'm still a citizen of Oz tho :)

After high school, I enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served during Desert Storm. My MOS was 6026; Allison T-56 turboprop and Hamilton Standard 54H60-11 propeller mechanic.

After the Marines, I went to college and now have a degree in Electron Microscopy and X-ray Microanalysis. I currently work as a particle accelerator technician in Middleton, Wisconsin and travel all over the world installing and maintaining accelerators.

I'm very happily married and have a six month old son (the joy of my life!). I've been painting AI models for a couple years now but I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of it. Some of my early paints were.....um......not too good. :) I'm now enslaved by Snowman and paint endless models for the NZ Retro AI project. just kidding Snowman!

Jason
Great to hear from you.
Your work has certainly not gone unnoticed, you have made an indelible mark in NZ virtual skies.
Excellent to have you involved , and many thanks for your efforts.
Also good to keep that Snowman out of mischief. B)

Hi Jas, I know the feeling when things don't go fast enough. But sub atomic particles? Get down to the crux of the matter why don't you! :P
