Landclass Update - Queenstown

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Hi,

FSX users, and those interested in various FSX forums, will be aware the default landclass in FSX has much to be desired. Much of the world is desert meaning what should be incredible rolling hills, forests and mountains is a bland series of bumps. New Zealand is not alot better, this was particularly evident in the Queenstown area. The remarkables in FSX are the averages, there is no town or village representing queenstown itself, and the 'mountains' appear to be rolling hills. Having been to Queenstown for the first time recently I was struck by the majesty and sheer presence of the mountains, jagged barren rocks reaching skywards, not the rolly polly things in FSX. :(

So, to correct this I have embarked on a project to replace the default landclass with updated versions, which will hopefully be a closer representation of the real place than we have at present.

Here is a screenshot of a small area that has been completed to highlight the differences between the default and updated class files. For those who have worked with these files you will know its a long, manual and tedious process, but one I think very worth it to start showing our country in its true beauty in FSX.

I'm using Ezy-Landclass 3.01, so if your interested in helping out let me know and I'm happy to share the files I am working with. With this sort of project the more people involved the better. No experience is required, I have none and have managed to pick it up just fine, the ability to slew in FS is the key skill, then the big thing is deciding what textures to use to ensure a standard look, so if people do get involved well need to set a standard to ensure commanality. Cheers.
