FSX Skins - Ideas Please

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Postby JonARNZ » Wed Jan 10, 2007 5:07 pm

Hi everyone. I am looking at doing skins for some of the GA and smaller two engined aircraft for FSX. As this is not an area of direct interest for me, I prefer the bigger types, I need some ideas for what aircraft I could do.

At this stage I am looking at the C172, Piper Cub and baron 58. So, what aircraft are around in New Zealand for these types, and where could I find photos of them.

I'm open to doing a few of each, maybe more, so all ideas and suggestions welcome. heres your chance to see your fave aircraft in FSX. Cheers.

Hi jon. How about "Massey Aviation School" on the Baron. I saw some twinners flying around with their emblem the other day. I know they have the Seneca in their fleet. but since that's not available I suppose the Baron would be the closest. Is this possible? :)

Thanks

I would love to see the plane i fly in most weekends repainted.....You could use the default c172 model

Zk-EJY as owned by Air Discovery

It would tie in nicely for my Whakatane airport project. Can supply whatever photos you want :)

ZK-OSL is a RL Baron that lives in NZTG. Sorry don't have photos but is part of GNZLAP.

By the way Jon the new rego looks great on the Dreamfleet Baron - thanks a lot - was trying to do my next leg of my NZ tour and post some screenies but computer keeps shutting down - I think i may have a cooling problem - anyway hopefully can resolve this and post some screenies soon.

Cheers

I gave up on the paint but maybe FSX and someone with your painting skills can do something with it?

Hey Jon, here's an Idea. You could go to Jetphotos.net or Myaviation.net and find an aeroplane with lotsa pics, like this

That way you could get loadsa photos for very little effort, though perhaps the imagination would have to be stretched slightly.

Great suggestions so far, exactly what I was looking for. WLV looks promising if for no other reason than the potential challenge it offers. I'll sort through all the ideas and come back with some decisions. Thanks everyone

Yes the fuse is a little creamier, spinners are blue, and so on, sure you'll get to it.
The bit that defeated me previously:
the fin paint follows the spine to the root so must wrap into the roof.

Mine just bled into a mess, along with the pinstripes.
You've nailed those, though.

My initial colors were crap, I found the photos you directed me to earlier and have reworked that part of the skin, its about 90% complete now. The Baron model has a few quirks so the 'straight' orange line is a real challenege. Heres an updated pic..

Ok, I'm now happy with the first Baron and C172 skins to consider them releasable. heres some screenies.s

The Baron, like other MS default aircraft, suffers some quirks in terms of weird mapping. This is clear in the first image in front of the tail, two areas there are not mapped from the same area on the skin, the result is white bits where there should be orange and blue. Nothing I can do about that at the moment :(

I have modified the overall color of the aircraft to reflect the creamier look, and feel the orange and blue are closer to the actual aircraft. The area on the wing tips is also coloured, the photos I had access to didn't give me allot of detail, so I have done my best to match what I could see.

The Flight Corporation Cessna 172 ZK-TGI - Pretty straight forward. The biggest challenge was matching the font types and getting that circle thingy.
