Vista and FSX

It was always stated that FSX was designed for Vista. Has anyone used the new operating system and is FSX performance improved?

I had a friend ring me this morning to tell me he upgraded to Vista today, and that FSX was running "heaps better" to quote him. Not that the opinion of a random stranger is probably that much help to you

FSX still isn't DX10 capable, wont be for a month or so, but should run better on vista due to the new kernel design and the os language

A Vista patch for FSX is required to take advantage of the new OS, this wont be ready for awhile so I would approach this topic with caution until we actually see the results. Some have found it performs better, others worse.

Even if you have Vista and you do not have a DX10 Video card eg Nivida 8800.
you will not see any improvement after the DX10 patch

This is a very definitive statement that I am assuming is based on your actual experience.

Could you tell us how long you have had Vista and FSX running and what card you have, and is DXT10 part of the Vista upgrade, and when you had access to the FSX upgrade to know we wont see any improvement. Cheers.

I don't have either running.

Look at it this way.

1. You have FSX, Vista, DX9 Video Card

FSX Has no DX10 instructions so Vista runs in DX9 mode

2 You have FSX +DX10 upgrade, Vista, DX9 Video Card

FSX now has DX10 instructions for Vista
Vista can now run as DX10 but Video card tells Vista it is only DX9 so Vista
has to again only sent the old DX9 commands to the video card so still no DX10.
You will get a small increase in speed plus a few other improvements but not any DX10 functions

3 FSX with DX10 upgrade, Vista, DX10 Video card

Vista can now run FSX in dx10 mode and seeing a DX10 Video card can now output
the new DX10 functions to the Video card

4 Lastly you have a non DX10 program, Vista, DX10 Video Card

Vista receives DX9 instructions so runs in DX9 mode and sends only the DX9 Video instructions to the card

You will get faster frame rates as the DX10 cards have more memory and a faster
memory & clock speeds, but no new DX10 functions

I have fsx but am noy using it as I only have a Athlon 2500 CPU and a
Radeon 9600 card

Well get a new PC only to run FSX
