Not sure I have this under the correct topic. I have just got this program going and was wondering if anyone else is familiar with it?. I know about the forum in VATSIM but wanted any NZ users comment on it. Cheers,

I'll chuck it in the Multiplayer forum, I'm sure we've got Matthew who can comment on it, or maybe he uses VRC, I dunno. :unsure:

My advice would be to get VRC instead. It's easier to use for someone new to controlling or radar software, as it focuses more on the use of your mouse instead of key commands.

Hi, Well after many headaches I have finally got ASRC going and was at the stage of getting VRC instead and I may give that a try also. My reason for the post was to see if there is anything originating within NZ that I can listen to?. Also I would be interested in hearing which airports you have found the most interesting?. I am at the Observer stage before trying a flight. I guess an Aussie airport would be a good place to start?.

What do you mean, you want to start flying or controlling on VATSIM? For ATC, once you've becomea member of both VATSIM and VATNZ, download the necessary NZ sector file here

If you want to start as a pilot, go to the PRC

***EDIT*** Apparently I'm stupid enough to link to VATNZ instead of the PRC. Fixed.

I have found useing VRC extremly difficult to use, its really slow loading up, fails to download the network data etc.. I found ivac for ivao was alot easier to learn the basics with.

Well for the basics of controlling IVAO is a good option, though the volume of traffic is less.It doesnt really matter if VRC doesnt download http data or any of that, you can still connect and control/obs fine.

You can observe voice as a pilot - put OBS in your flight plan routeand connect at an airport that has people flying around it and ATC.

I do use VRC, and it is much better than ASRC.

Hey Pat, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE you read the VATSIM Pilot resource center. It will take up maybe 20 minutes of your time, but it is very important to getting along in VATSIM.

Yes, I have read all that and a lot more trying to get to grips with it but I think I have it almost tagged now. I downloaded the NZ sector file but it just gave me a map of NZ. Don't you get a radar screen like those of the LA or UK airports?. The Sector files for Brisbane and Melbourne also don't appear to give a radar screen. Am I missing something?. It looks like I still have something to learn eh?.

Is this in VRC or ASRC? BTW, the sector file is basically the map of NZ with all the VORs, NDBs, airfields and waypoints.

Goto the View menu, and turn everything on
