And Alex since the Queen Flew on one in 2002 they were still in service beyond 1998

They were phased out in June 2002

wow, a 777 in Wellington, never thought I'd see that.

Well an ANZ 777 came in the other day apparently (something like the 25th)

Anyway, Jon do you remember the time the ANZ 747-200 came in to Wellington on the day that they opened the new Wellington Airport terminal (that my dad's work designed. Actually my dad did the departure lounge for gate 21)

Yes I do, didnmt know it was there (gutted) but did see it depart (thats when I realised it was there, doubly gutted) It's not the first time it has been here. They flew circuits with the 747 when they first got them to test wgtn as a secondary airport, I didnt see it myself but freinds who own a house overlooking the airport at the time (we are talking a decade ago at least) spent the day watching it doing touch and goes and full takeoffs and landings. They did the same with the DC-10 when they got them.

A united 747 also diverted to wgtn from Auckland some years back, so they are not new by any means, just not frequent.
