I'd like to try my hand at the default FSX controlling if it wouldn't put you out. :) Is there some position you can slot me into?

At this stage we're good Alex........thanks for putting your hand up. If it gets very busy we may need you but at this stage we're sweat. We should be able to get you into tower next time. Have you done any FSX tower???

I have a friend who I think would be keen to come along. He's a complete newbie at Flight Sim, and FSX but I think he'd really enjoy seeing everything going on. He's got around 2 hours of my training, and around 10 - 15 hours in the cockpit at a guess. He's not ready for IVAO or VATSIM type controlling, so if you'd rather we stay out of your way let me know. Or if you are happy to send him on his way and treat him as VFR, let me know, and I'll see if he wants to come along. I'm pretty keen to make an appearance barring anything unexpected :)

Everyone is welcome, so bring him along if he wants to join in, We all started somewhere, as for the controlling, I don't think we are at Vatsim etc level as yet, we do our best, nothing more.

Problem with that is no one else will have it, so wont see it. In the NOTAM we state what aircraft are best for the flight, so really prefer you stick with types in that category and keep them default FSX models, we get some weird results when FSX substitutes models, hence why we do it this way.

Tower frequencies are strictly ATC only. But you're welcome to talk on an unused frequency if you like, maybe we could agree to have a dedicated chatter frequency, like 130.00 (as an example)?

Good idea, tower tends to have its own chat frequency for hand-overs and piss taking, ummm I mean important ATC type technical talk, stuff....

Anyway, no reason the fly boys couldn't do the same thing, or a general chat frequency for everyone.

Your friend is 110% welcome :D . If he's struggling, it might be a good idea for you guys to do a joint cockpit flight?? There are some strict rules with joint cockpit flying that you'll need to read over........The Guidelines and Rules will be posted shorlty. >nzflag<

Just a quick note about the comms stuff.......while chatter between pilots is encourged on another freq, you must insure you can still hear ATC on comm 1. Only Comm 2 can be used for other communication......If you are unsure of how to work the radios effectively then I'd advise taking a joint cockpit flight with an someone who does.....Jon will be Flying on Thursday and He's always keen to help......He'll Captain a Joint cockpit flight.....Contact us if you'd like to have the first officers seat on Jon's aircraft (first officer generally handles radio communication with ATC, autopilot, Navigation, checklists and helps the captain with aircraft switches etc..The duties of the two pilots is up to them..It's always a good idea to figure out who's going to do what)

I'll post the freqs for Thursday night closer to the time, I'll also include an "inter pilot comm freq" or two. Watch this space for the relevent freqs.

(Jon, we may need to add this comms thing to the rules) :plane:

Ok Team.........here are the frequencies you'll need.......right them down or print them out.......

NZCH (communication and ATIS frequencies)
Tower 118.30 (this should be your first contact for radio checks at christchurch)
ATIS 127.20

NZCH (navigation frequencies)
Christchurch VOR 115.30
Eyewell VOR 116.60
Runway 02 ILS 109.90
Runway 20 ILS 110.30

NZDN (communication and ATIS frequencies)
Tower 120.70
ATIS 128.80 (Try the freq, but I highly doubt it will work. I'll post the Dunedin ATIS on the chat box at the start of the server)

NZDN (navigation frequencies)
Swampy VOR 112.70
Runway 03 ILS 110.30
Runway 21 ILS 109.90

Interpilot communications
Pilot intercomm 'Alpha' 130.00
Pilot intercomm 'Bravo' 131.00

Keep an eye out for those guidelines that will be out soon

Today I spent the day with Nick(ATC) at NZDN tower and since we're on the topic of comms and radio chatter here's some very funny Radio chatter That happened today at NZDN.

Student pilot "Dunedin tower, CBS.....request taxi to Balcutha"

Tower "CBS, Dunedin tower.....clear to taxi to Balcutha........caution fence!!!!"

Was great laughs all round!!!!! >nzflag< I hope this helps to ease the tension about radio chatter in FSX
